Design Coordinator (E&I) at Bechtel Corporation

Project Summary: 

Bechtel is supporting Africa Data Centres in an ambitious programme to deliver 12 data centres across 10 African countries. Project Decima will initially provide at least 70MW capacity of much needed interconnected carrier and cloud-neutral data facilities in this currently under-served and rapidly expanding market. Bechtel will provide central programme management and in-country deployed teams to deliver engineering, procurement and construction services tailored to location specific requirements. This is a great opportunity to develop with this fast-moving customer while supporting Data Centre Teams in various African locations including:

Nairobi and Mombasa, Kenya

Position Summary: 

Deployed to support a specific data centre project, the Electrical & Instrumentation Design Coordinator will be based in the New Delhi office, and report to the Project Engineering Manager. This role is accountable to manage E&I design (performed by others) as part of the ePCM delivery model. This is a senior engineering position that demands excellent communication skills and a strong collaborative working ethic.

Responsibilities:

The Electrical & Instrumentation Design Coordinator will expedite E&I design to support overall project delivery, including:

1. Driving compliance to the project execution plan
2. Managing E&I design consultants’ work plans, and coordinating design reviews
3. Reviewing design consultant performance
4. Lead regular expediting meetings with design consultants
5. Review design consultants’ staffing and recommend staff additions or changes
6. Verify readiness of design submissions for design review and participate with ADC in those reviews to expedite approval of engineering packages ahead of procurement and construction
7. Assess progress and review & analyse design consultants’ performance (cost and schedule) against the plan
8. Engage with design consultants to:
9. expedite design for safety and compliance to codes and standards & ADC specifications
10. expedite timely resolution of RFIs/FCDs/NCRs
11. achieve optimal project cost, space, and energy consumption
12. expedite as-built information and final configuration of BIM Models for handover
13. expedite design substantiation information in support of ADC submissions to regulatory authorities
14. Specific Job Knowledge and Responsibilities
15. Familiarity with engineering aspects of buildings and its associated utilities namely expertise in electrical and control system layouts, substations, medium voltage and low voltage distribution, UPS systems, grounding, lighting, cable laying and routing.
16. Knowledge of Building Management systems inclusive of electrical power measurement systems architecture, integration of HVAC, Fire protection, cyber security.
17. Knowledge of control schematics, cause and effect, graphics etc. 

Experience of conducting FAT and SAT

1. Oversee the development of Electrical and Instrumentation work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manage implementation and performance of design contractors accordingly
2. Ability to resolve design issues, monitor performance of design contractors,  
3. Experience of engineering coordination with other engineering disciplines i.e., CSA, Mechanical and various interdisciplinary documents, and concurrent model reviews. Knowledge of software such Revit, Cable routing etc.  
4. Knowledge of construction practices, details, and techniques. 
5. Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications. 
6. Basic Qualifications:
7. B.S. in Electrical or Instrumentation/ Electronics & Communication Engineering or equivalent related field from an accredited institution
8. Minimum 9+ years of experience  with electrical system design for building projects

Preferred Qualification:

1. Exposure to Infra projects/ Power generation projects covering the aspects of Data Centre in EPCM or PMC Projects 
2. Recent experience with design and construction of Data Centre Projects.
