    Venture Partner Growth / BD

    We have ambitious plans on the next step of our journey developing the leading early-stage investor for frontier markets, and are seeking a Venture Partner Growth/BD to help us develop and roll-out our capacity growth support to start-ups founders in Africa. This role is for someone that can work with pure tech start-ups (i.e. Saas) but also with more traditional tech start-ups where perhaps end customers are not as digital savvy to drive business growth.

    What we’re looking for:

    1. 5+ years of experience in a growth / business development / partnerships role in start-ups.
    2. You must be a blend between an analytical and creative person.
    3. Analytical mindset to drive user growth, engagement and conversion.
    4. Solid project management skills: ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners.
    5. Strong communication and presentation abilities.
    6. Comfortable communicating, discussing, and debating insights with leaders within the start-ups.
    7. You’ve worked in a start-up or, even better, have started your own business.
    8. You have a demonstrable passion for Africa, technology and entrepreneurship.
    9. You’re a people person, capable of identifying, nurturing and amplifying the potential in others.
    10. You’re an excellent communicator and are fluent in English, with bonus points if you also speak French or Portuguese.
    11. You are always learning and constantly challenging yourself and others around you to be better.

    Our nice to haves:

    1. Product driven growth experience with landing pages, signup funnel optimisation, viral sharing flows etc.
    2. Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Sendgrid, Hootsuite or other related marketing tools.
    3. Experience with Pricing and Promotion management solutions
    4. Have lived or worked in any of our key markets across Africa.

    Responsibilities

    What you’ll do:

    1. Play an active role managing and supporting start-ups within our portfolio, blending project management, strategy consulting, business development and growth hacking principles; work alongside founders remotely and in-market to help grow their businesses.
    2. You will specifically work closely with our portfolio companies on the following: Growth Marketer:
    3. Work with our internal team to establish growth and expansion strategies to support our portfolio's companies growth and fill in opportunity gaps.
    4. Research structures to figure out new markets, expansion strategies.
    5. Help startups conduct customer discovery interviews and segment their
    6. Propose and develop product-led growth hacks like optimising new user onboarding or conversion funnel.
    7. Setup, manage and coach startups on running social media campaigns i.e paid ads on Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and other social media channels
    8. Create, manage and experiment with new user acquisition campaigns and tactics.
    9. Supply the management team with reports and data on customer needs, problems, interests, competitive activities and potential for new products and services.
    10. Create, manage and experiment with new user acquisition campaigns.
    11. Analyze data to monitor revenue performance and uncover areas for improvement.
    12. Business Development:
    13. Identify and unlock business opportunities for growth by supporting start-ups' effort in understanding market positions, improve their negotiations strategies.
    14. Coordinate with their sales teams to develop beneficial business proposals
    15. Gather useful information from customer and competitor data.
    16. Help them in making and giving presentations to prospective clients as well as drafting partnerships proposals.
    17. Research, identify and develop investment opportunities; analyse and evaluate start-up founders and their businesses; create and pitch investment proposals to our investment committee.
    18. Work with a cross functional team of Data, Product, Growth, Engineer, Finance specialists to support growth and scaling strategies for our start-ups portfolio.

    Junior Venture Partner Marketing/Branding

    The role:

    We have ambitious plans on the next step of our journey developing the leading early-stage investor for frontier markets, and are seeking a Junior Venture Partner Marketing/Branding to help us develop and roll-out our capacity growth support to start-ups founders in Africa. This role is for someone with good knowledge and exposure to marketing and branding for early stage ventures, with ideally a good eye for design and design software knowledge.

    What you’ll do:

    1. Play an active role managing and supporting start-ups within our portfolio, blending project management, strategy consulting, marketing principles; work alongside founders remotely and in-market to help grow their businesses. You will specifically work closely with our portfolio companies on the following:
    2. Marketing:
      1. Work closely with the startups to create and implement successful marketing campaigns from ideation to execution to our portfolio companies.
      2. Your recurrent activities will include content creation, social media, PR, partnership marketing, SEO and SEM, events in partnerships with our start-ups founders.
      3. Creation of marketing collateral for both traditional and digital channels.
      4. Work closely with start-ups on their marketing assets, website, branding, business proposals, investment decks and more.
      5. Ability to elevate and accelerate social, digital marketing for start-ups.
    3. Branding: 
      1. Create brand identity, mission & values, positioning, and voice for their audiences.
      2. Define key consumer target segments & point of brand differentiation.
      3. Conceive, execute, and lead influencer and brand engagement campaigns.
      4. Be the point of reference for our start-ups social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube) and help them on content creation/management.
      5. Research, identify and develop investment opportunities; analyse and evaluate start-up founders and their businesses; create and pitch investment proposals to our investment committee.
      6. Work with a cross functional team of Data, Product, Growth, Engineer, Finance, Consulting specialists to support growth and scaling strategies for our start-ups portfolio.

    What we’re looking for:

    1. 2 to 5+ years experience in marketing / branding.
    2. Experience in developing content for digital communications channels, including web sites, intranets, email campaigns, and social media.
    3. Very data driven and should be curious about and tell stories using data.
    4. Experience with traditional & digital marketing.
    5. AdWords and analytic platforms, mail programs such as Constant Contact and Mailchimp, blogging and blogging platforms, website creation and management.
    6. Genuine intellectual curiosity, strong interpersonal skills and ability to build diverse relationships.
    7. Energy, hustle, and initiator mentality.
    8. Strong communication and presentation abilities. Comfortable communicating, discussing, and debating insights with leaders within the start-ups.
    9. Start-up experience is essential as the ideal candidate must be able to illustrate where you’ve encountered difficulty and must understand the demands of a start-up environment. You’ve worked in a start-up or, even better, have started your own business.
    10. You have a demonstrable passion for Africa, technology and entrepreneurship.
    11. You’re a people person, capable of identifying, nurturing and amplifying the potential in others.
    12. You’re an excellent communicator and are fluent in English, with bonus points if you also speak French or Portuguese.
    13. You are always learning and constantly challenging yourself and others around you to be better.

    Our nice to haves:

    1. You are comfortable building infographics, and have experience using design tools to create visual communications. Photoshop and Illustrator are your middle names!
    2. Paid Marketing experience (SEM, SEO, CRO, paid/organic social, email, affiliate, influencer and planning, content marketing).
    3. Have lived or worked in any of our key markets across Africa.

    Junior Venture Partner Product

    The role:

    We have ambitious plans on the next step of our journey developing the leading early-stage investor for frontier markets, and are seeking a Junior Venture Partner Product to help us develop and roll-out our capacity growth support to start-ups founders in Africa. This is a technical product role; we're looking for someone who has a technical background (i.e. computer science etc.) applied to product management.

    What you’ll do:

    1. Play an active role managing and supporting start-ups within our portfolio, blending project management, strategy consulting, product and growth hacking principles; work alongside founders remotely and in-market to help grow their businesses. You will specifically work closely with our portfolio companies on the following:
    2. Product and Business Analysis:
    3. Identify and unlock opportunities in key growth areas of focus, including user acquisition, activation, retention, monetization, international, and mobile growth.
    4. Partner with engineers, designers, and product managers in the growth team, bringing data and analysis to help guide day-to-day decision making.
    5. Support engineers in making technical decisions on database management while accounting for relevant constraints.
    6. Strong technology background with some experience working on technical teams.
    7. Understand and distill large complex data sets into key learnings, actionable insights, and experiment recommendations.
    8. Collaborate with the user research team to balance quantitative data with qualitative data where appropriate.
    9. Effectively visualize, share and communicate key takeaways from experiments and analysis within the team and across the organization. 
    10. Audit code bases and data structures with the intent to support scalable technology.
    11. Product Growth and Experimentation:
    12. Partner with product, design and engineering to design, build and implement experiments that test hypotheses informed by data.
    13. Use growth levers from analysis through learning and iteration to achieve measurable impact, actively monitoring, proactively driving and discovering opportunities, and investigating shifts in key business trends.
    14. Research and support ideation, brainstorming, and prioritization process with quantitative data (quantify, qualify opportunities, impact assessment, sizing, etc).
    15. Analyze and report on experiment results to determine outcomes and findings for future experiments and iterations.
    16. Research, identify and develop investment opportunities; analyse and evaluate start-up founders and their businesses; create and pitch investment proposals to our investment committee.

    What we’re looking for:

    • 3+ years of experience with product optimization or growth methodologies.
    • Consistent track record in using quantitative analysis to drive product and/or business decisions.
    • Experience supporting senior team members and contributing to multiple product visions.
    • Preferably a quantitative engineering background (computer science, engineering, economics, finance).
    • Strong communication and presentation abilities. Comfortable communicating, discussing, and debating insights with leaders within the start-ups.
    • You’ve worked in a start-up or, even better, have started your own business.
    • You have a demonstrable passion for Africa, technology and entrepreneurship.
    • You’re a people person, capable of identifying, nurturing and amplifying the potential in others.
