    Systems Librarian

    DEPARTMENT: Library
    REPORTS TO: Chief Librarian
    EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Contract

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Ensure high quality, robust library systems that facilitate research, discovery and delivery of Library services and resources to the entire university and ensure proper management of information technology used in a Library.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    1. Maintaining the library's local area network and maintain links with the wide area network.
    2. Maintaining the library computer software and hardware.
    3. Training staff and students on use of library systems and software’s
    4. Maintaining the Library website and database.
    5. Analyse user needs, formulate and implement solutions.
    6. Provide routine troubleshooting of the hardware and software.
    7. Updating and upgrading library systems, software’s and interfaces to meet user requirements.
    8. Oversee the implementation and management of new library and information management systems
    9. Work closely with the IT department, the Web team, and Collection staff, to manage Collection and E-resources
    10. Tests new software versions
    11. Troubleshoots issues related to Collection databases and web output
    12. Create and maintain reports from Collection databases
    13. Identify and analyze existing and emerging needs for new applications or systems
    14. Assists in the formulation and implementation of policies and procedures, particularly in the area of systems development.
    15. Work with ICT department on user problems related to personal computer (desktop computers), network infrastructure, and software.
    16. Retain inventory records of library hardware and software.
    17. Any other duties as assigned by the Chief Librarian.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Sciences and a diploma in Computer science or IT (or vice versa).
    2. Served in the position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
    3. Competency in both LINUX and windows operating systems.

    SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

    • Ability to upgrade, update and administrate over the Library Management System KOHA and DSPACE institutional repository.
    • Good skills in HTML, CSS, Python, Linux Shell, MySQL and Perl programming languages.
    • Competency in Apache and tomcat webservers.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of digital content and metadata standards, such as Dublin Core.
    • Knowledge of scholarly communication issues, Open Access initiatives, copyright issues, and new forms of publication and research.

    Cook

    DEPARTMENT: Cafeteria
    REPORTS TO: Cafeteria Manager

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Responsible for preparing, cooking and serving nutritious, quality Food and Beverage to the entire university community.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    • Prepare and cook food in accordance with set standard recipes.
    • To ensure that food is served and kept at the right temperatures.
    • Observe safety precautions when handling kitchen equipment.
    • Ensure that waste is kept at minimal levels by using creative cooking methods.
    • 5Ensure that stock rotation and FIFO strictly followed and adhered to.
    • To observe kitchen hygiene set standards during food preparation and follow HACCP.
    • Preparation and serving of all food and beverages at the cafeteria and for functions.
    • Perform and ensure opening and closing duties are done accordingly.
    • Responsible for all kitchen activities in the absence of the chef.
    • Provide guidance to interns and kitchen stewards.
    • To execute food control standards in dispensing the established food portions.
    • Perform any other duty assigned from time to time by the chef.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    1. Diploma in food and beverage production or its equivalent
    2. 3 years’ experience as a cook preferably in an institution of higher learning.
    3. HACCP qualification will be an added advantage
    4. Food handlers certificate

    Pastry Cook

    DEPARTMENT: Cafeteria
    REPORTS TO: Cafeteria Manager

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Responsible for Preparing, baking and serving nutritious, quality bakery and pastry products.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Detailed JD will be given on appointment)

    1. Prepare and bake pastries in accordance with set standard recipes.
    2. To ensure bakery products and pastries are served and kept at the right temperature.
    3. Ensure that stock rotation and FIFO strictly followed and adhered to.
    4. Observe safety precautions when handling kitchen equipment.
    5. Ensure that waste is kept at minimal levels by using creative culinary and bakery methods.
    6.  To observe kitchen hygiene set standards during food preparation and follow HACCP.
    7. To execute food control standard in dispensing the established food and pastries portion.
    8. Preparation of all pastries and snack for functions, fresh fruit cuts, salads, desserts and tea snacks.
    9. Perform and ensure opening and closing duties are done accordingly.
    10. Provide guidance to interns and kitchen stewards.
    11. Take kitchen responsibilities in the absence of the head chef
    12. Perform any other duties assigned by the chef from time to time.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    1. Diploma in Food production and beverages or its’ equivalent
    2. 3 years’ experience as a pastry cook preferably in an institution of higher learning
    3. Food handling health certificate

    1. Knowledgeable of food safety regulations.
    2. Ability to work in a fast paced environment and can multi task.
    3. Attention to detail, creativity, passion and sense of business.
