    Community Health Extension Workers

    Vacancy No: OHGL/NUR/CHEW/06/005

    Location: Kisii, Nyamira, Siaya, Homa Bay

    Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer and the Head of Marketing and Liaison, the successful candidate shall have overall responsibility to reach out to communities, facilities and clients to promote health programs on primary health and navigating the clients who require curative services to hospitals.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collection of health-related data at household level for analysis
    • Identification of common ailments and minor injuries at community level and referral as appropriate
    • Identification and referral of health cases from the community
    • Visiting homes and primary care facilities to sensitize the community on health interventions
    • Take a central role in organization of community outreach programs including medical campaigns to sensitize communities
    • Identification of defaulters of health interventions and referring them as appropriate.

    Oncology Nurse

    Vacancy No: OHGL/NUR/ON/06/004

    Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Special Clinics Nurse Manager, the successful candidate shall have overall responsibility to ensure all oncology clients have been reviewed and their cancer treatment initiated as per the protocols.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care to patients and clients having been diagnosed with cancer using the nursing process framework.
    • Undertake screening services for various cancers and help diagnose patients early.
    • Work with the Oncology team to navigate patients through the cancer treatment journey.
    • Support clients who have been diagnosed of cancer psychologically through their journey to recovery.
    • In collaboration with the finance team ensure clients get appropriate insurance approval to facilitate smooth treatment.
    • Ensure the chemotherapy protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines
    • Champion safe handling of cytotoxic drugs and appropriate disposal of waste.
    • Run survivorship programs to promote mental health of patients and improve care outcomes
    • Run Hospice services and palliation to improve quality of life
    • Participate in community outreach programs and creation of awareness about cancer and its treatment
    • Give a specialist advice to the Chief Nursing Officer in regard to the Oncology nursing care
    • Champion quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in theatre as advised by the Quality Lead.
    • Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly reports about the unit are timely generated and submitted appropriately

    Requirements

    • KRCHN or BSc. N
    • Post-Basic Qualification in Oncology Nursing
    • At least 2-years’ experience working in an oncology unit
    • MUST be registered and hold a current license by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
    • BLS/ACLS strongly preferred
    • Compassionate skills
    • Team leading skills
    • Effective communicator

    Perioperative Nurse

    Vacancy No: OHGL/NUR/PO/06/003

    Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Theatre Nurse Manager, the successful candidate shall have overall responsibility to ensure safety in all surgical operations including direct monitoring of instrument processing, patient positioning on tables and assisting in procedures.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan for all surgical procedures by ensuring theatre lists are followed
    • Ensure proper pre-operative preparation of patients including instituting compliance of pre-operative checklists
    • Implementation of patient safety programs in theatre including full compliance to WHO surgical Safety Checklists
    • Preparation of surgical instruments in readiness for procedures to ensure sterility
    • Ensure prudent use of resources by properly allocating staff and proper utilization of consumables to prevent waste and promote a culture of accountability.
    • Lead patient safety protocols in theatre by instituting standard infection control and prevention in theatre and promoting proper patient body mechanics to prevent harm.
    • Participate in surgical procedures are a scrub nurse or a circulating nurse
    • Lead the management of post-anesthetic patients in close consultation with the anesthetist/anestheologist until discharge from the unit.
    • Participate in the Post-surgical care of patients
    • Participate in outreach programs involving surgical patients and surgery at large
    • Give a specialist advice to the Chief Nursing Officer in regard to the Peri-operative care of patients
    • In collaboration with the finance department, ensure all the procedures, and commodities are billed appropriately for every patient.
    • Champion quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in theatre as advised by the Quality Lead.
    • Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly reports about the unit are timely generated and submitted appropriately

    Requirements

    • KRCHN or BSc. in Nursing
    • Post-Basic Qualification in Peri-Operative Nursing
    • At least 2-years’ experience working in Theatre
    • MUST be registered and hold a current license by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)

    Midwife

    Vacancy No: OHGL/NUR/MF/06/002

    Overall Responsibility: Reporting to the Maternity unit Nurse Manager, the successful candidate shall have overall responsibility in provision of primary nursing care (from admission to discharge) of maternity clients.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care suing the nursing process framework to all maternity clients.
    • Admission and conducting initial clinical assessments of patients admitted to the maternity unit.
    • Lead the implementation of all maternity protocols in consultation with the Resident Gynecologist.
    • Prompt identification of critical events in labor and escalating as appropriate to ensure safety and quality outcomes
    • Conduct deliveries including complicated deliveries using the available protocols
    • Participate in pre-operative preparation of mothers undergoing surgical deliveries and other obstetric and gynecological procedures.
    • Participate in receiving babies during normal and surgical deliveries
    • Participate in emergency response involving the mother or child by ensuring all the protocols in resuscitation are implemented
    • Documentation and reporting of all activities in the maternity unit.
    • Participate in decision making as regard to maternity unit
    • Participate in community outreach programs promoting reproductive health
    • Participate actively in running of MCH services and follow-up reviews
    • Champion quality improvement and patient safety initiatives in maternity unit as advised by the Quality Lead.
    • Ensure all daily, weekly and monthly reports about the unit are timely generated and submitted appropriately

    Requirements

    • KRCHN/BSc.N with Post-Basic qualification in Midwifery
    • KRM or BSc. Midwifery
    • At least 2-years’ experience in a busy maternity ward
    • MUST registered and hold a current license by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
    • EMONC certification is strongly preferred
    • Keen eye to details
    • Passionate and a good communicator
    • Computer skills and good reporting skills including experience in Health Information Systems
