    Assistant Project Officer

    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Gender Project Officer, the Assistant Gender Project Officer will be responsible for assisting in planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and documentation of all SGBV/FGM activities in one of the Dadaab refugee camps.

    The officer will have a close working relationship with project officers and Lead Psychosocial Officer. The incumbent will work closely with other CARE sectors such as education, Community Development (CDS), WATSAN and Program Support.

    Assistant Project Officer Job Responsibilities

    • Designing, planning & implementation of anti-SGBV activities
    • Assisting in design & implement strategies for preventing & responding S/GBV
    • Attending to reported SGBV cases & clearly document referrals done & ensure follow-up
    • Developing an accurate database on GBV incidents & ensure SGBV data is shared with the supervisor and other sector staff on a monthly basis
    • Organizing through counseling unit counseling for SGBV survivors and persons at risk.
      Designing, planning & implementation of anti-FGM activities
    • Mobilizing community participation in anti-FGC activities in the refugee camps
    • Participating in meetings with community leaders, anti-FGC support groups and other stakeholders
    • Developing innovative and sustain FGC implementation strategies closely monitoring behavior change and regularly appraise on existing strategies on FGM/C
    • Keeping up to date number of girls abandoning FGM and organizing their counseling or therapy
    • Referring all FGC related complications to GTZ-IS and follow-up on the same.
    • Conducting training sessions for identified community and agency staff on FGC issues.
    • Organizing, attend or facilitate workshops and TOT sessions for incentive workers, change agents, support groups and agency workers.
    • Participating in camp based interagency meetings with UNHCR, NCCK, GTZ-IS and GOK for coordination and follow-up on FGC activities.
    • Developing and maintaining positive and professional working relationship with agencies
    • Project Monitoring & Evaluation
    • Analyzing, compiling and submitting monthly SGBV reports to the project officer for sharing
    • Assisting in the development of project proposal, concept notes & sector publications
    • Regularly monitoring FGC activities and provide feedback for adjustment of activities as needed.
    • Ensuring that assigned projects achieve set goals, objectives and outcomes
    • Assisting in mid-term or end of project evaluations on FGC/M on project impact
    • Report writing & documentation
    • Prepare and submit activity progress reports including weekly, monthly SGBV & SITREPs
    • Developing annual procurement plans and timely procurement of sector camp items
    • Keeping inventory of all items in the sector and NFIs distributed disaggregated by age gender
    • Assisting in the preparation of GAD sector operation plans/work plans & reviews
    • Staff supervision
    • Hold weekly sessions with CDWs and prepare weekly work plans for the camp
    • Assigning tasks to CDWs to ensure effective, efficient and timely implementation
    • Conducting regular meetings with CDWs and FGC Support Groups
    • Conduct in regular block and home visits to assess and verify activities SGBV cases
    • Reporting on the performance of the FGC /SGBV CDWs to the Supervisor as planned.
    • Provide CDWs counseling support and mentoring.

    Qualifications for the Assistant Project Officer Job

    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences
    • Experience: 2 years of relevant proven working experience in sexual and gender based violence and FGM related program. Applicants with work experience in a refugee setting have an added advantage.
    • Certificate: Microsoft Office application
    •  Good project report writing skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
    • Ability to apply gender-mainstreaming skills to development is an added advantage
