    Regional Gender in Emergencies Coordinator

    CARE is seeking a talented individual to take on the position of Regional Gender in Emergencies Coordinator for East Central and Southern Africa (ECSA). This position will strengthen gender analysis, integration, mainstreaming and programming in CARE’s humanitarian work in the ECSA region. H/She will act as a coordination point to mainstream best practices and standards for gender equality in emergencies. The Regional GiE Coordinator is responsible for driving CARE’s GiE (Gender in Emergencies) agenda in ECSA; building capacity of CARE staff and partners to design and deliver gender sensitive / responsive / transformative humanitarian work; and representing CARE in external fora on GiE-related issues where appropriate. The Regional GiE Coordinator will support Country Offices (COs) to ensure maximum impact of CARE’s programming and to contribute to the development of gender-focused policy and advocacy, with the ultimate aim of improving impact for the vulnerable populations CARE serves in humanitarian settings.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • GiE technical support, capacity building and emergency preparedness and response
    • GiE program quality and learning/resources mobilization
    • Representation, policy and advocacy
    • Other responsibilities

    Primary Skills:

    • Master's degree (or a combination of Bachelor's degree and relevant work experience) in development studies, international relations, gender studies or another relevant field
    • 7-10 years work experience in humanitarian and development settings, preferably with a large NGO
    • 5 years practical field experience in a gender in emergencies role
    • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in mainstreaming gender in humanitarian program design, management, monitoring and evaluation, including application of SPHERE and IASC standards,
    • International experience in assessment, gender analysis, program development, evaluation, project proposal and budget preparation
    • Strong understanding of international standards and agreements related to Gender in Emergencies and GBViE
    • Excellent ability to cultivate and maintain networks and relationships
    • Strong representational skills and demonstrated ability to speak with impact about GiE work
    • Track record of success in capacity building, including but not limited to designing and delivering culturally sensitive training in multi-country contexts and coaching / mentoring staff.
    • Outstanding English language communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Excellent organisational skills; ability to plan and organise work effectively, to meet tight deadlines and juggle multiple priorities
    • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability develop effective working relationships in a multicultural environment
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully across diverse teams in a complex organization
    • Self-starter with a strong drive to deliver success
    • Strong commitment to team-work, collaboration and cooperation across different parts of the CARE confederation

    Position will be locally-based with a compensation package competitive for the local market
