DryGro is an agriculture technology company working to revolutionise the market for animal feed protein. Today, most animal feed protein comes from soybean meal. Most of the world’s soybeans are grown in the US, Brazil, and Argentina. Protein demand is increasing, but the land required to grow soybeans is scarce. What got us through the 20th century won’t get us through the 21st. We need better, more sustainable alternatives. Founded at Oxford University in 2015, DryGro is developing cutting-edge growing systems to grow a soybean meal replacement crop called Lemna. This technology builds upon recent advancements in vertical farming and horticulture systems, and allows for efficient, reliable production.
Description
The Procurement Manager works with all of DryGro’s business units (Operations, Technology and Plant Science) to source suppliers for the materials that are required for DryGro’s construction projects and ongoing operations (growing and processing Lemna). Each business unit is responsible for providing the Procurement Manager with relevant information about materials required, and the Procurement Manager coordinates closely with stakeholders to ensure clear handover of technical details.
The Procurement Manager structures and issues Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Purchase Orders (POs) to suppliers and contractors, and facilitates communication between all stakeholders to ensure that necessary information on specifications is provided. The Procurement Manager keeps the Operations, Technology and Plant Science teams informed of the schedule, quality and cost of materials. The Procurement Manager carefully tracks materials and communicates delivery times to relevant stakeholders. Any changes in the quality and cost of materials are also swiftly communicated by the Procurement Manager.
The Procurement Manager documents procurement decisions (bid evaluations) and pricing changes in accordance with DryGro’s procedures. The Procurement Manager keeps procurement management software up-to-date and rich with content on relevant projects and action items. The Procurement Manager also coordinates with the Project Manager to update project management software, as directed.
The Procurement Manager reports on supplier performance, capturing information such as adherence to schedule, quality of output or product, and support provided.
An important part of the Procurement Manager’s role is the development of strong relationships with preferred local suppliers and contractors.
