Scada Engineer at WTS Energy

The Company is a leading owner / operator of one of the most prestigious power generating projects in Africa. The Company is expanding its core technical team by hiring an experienced Protection, SCADA and Operations Engineer.
This is a unique opportunity for a senior role and the selected candidate will form a part of the nucleus of LTWP’s expanding technical team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The role reports to the Chief Technical Officer and the successful candidate shall be responsible for:

• Ongoing development, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the Company’s SCADA system;
• Plans layout and oversees maintenance of protection equipment of an electric power system to minimize interruption to service and danger to lives and equipment from abnormalities, such as overload, no load, and short circuits, Knowledge on Siprotec Relays and DIGSI software will be an added advantage;
• Liaison with the Kenyan Transmission System Operator (TSO) which shall include working with the TSO in the designing and maintenance of communications protocols;
• Reply to downtime events impacting Production, Fault coordination analysis;
• Monitoring, operating and controlling dynamic reactive power compensators;
• Supervision of Dispatch Engineers/Technicians/Service contractors;
• Prepare operations analysis and maintenance programs for all plants (Both under service contracts and BOP);
• Preparation of timely maintenance and operation reports;
• Ensure safety of staff and equipment working under him/her;
• Procurement planning and inventory management.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

• Be a holder of KNEC-Higher Diploma or bachelor’s degree in any of the following engineering disciplines or equivalent qualification(s): A candidate with a Masters on the below will be an added advantage:
  • Electrical Power Systems;
  • Electrical/Electronics;
  • Electrical Control Systems;
  • Electronics and Telecommunications.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a grid connected power system control room/Dispatch centre or similar work environment.
• Be conversant in functions, and operations of:
  • Protection systems.
  • Kenya Electrical Grid System;
  • SCADA System;
  • Auxiliary Supply Systems in a power station;
  • Diesel generators of up to 630kVA;
  • Electrical grid/substation relays and protection systems;
  • Air and Vacuum Circuit breakers.
• Proficiency in MS office applications, knowledge on statistical packages will be added advantage.
• Good supervisory and communication skills.

*Role based on project site (out of Nairobi) on a 6 Weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation
