    Country Office Security Associate

    Contract Duration: 1 Year with possibility for extension, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

    This is a local position open to Kenyan Nationals only. Open to internal applicants holders of PA/CA/FTA of entities of the UN Common System.

    Reports to: Regional Security Advisor/Deputy Regional Security Specialist (Primary Supervisor)

    Reports to: Country Office Security Focal Point (Secondary Supervisor)

    Position Status: Non-Rotational

    Organizational Context

    Under the immediate supervision of the Country Office Security Focal Point (CO SFP), the Country Office Security Associate (COSA) will provide assistance in the implementation of the security plan and all matters relating to safety and security operations and management. The COSA will report to the Regional Security Advisor (RSA) or Deputy Regional Security Specialist (DRSS) (varies depending on the particular region) for functional security matters. It is important to note that the COSA is a local national with vocational experience in security who must always conduct his/her functions in close cooperation with UNDSS and under the direct supervision of and be accountable to the UNDP CO SFP. In rare instances when a Field Security Specialist (FSS) is present at the duty station with the COSA, the FSS will serve as the sole supervisor.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist in implementation of Country Office Security Plan
    • MOSS/MORSS Compliance
    • Threat & Risk Assessment
    • Liaison/Coordination
    • Programming
    • Sharing Information
    • General Assistance to the CO SFP
    • Security Training/Briefings
    • Other Tasks & Activities

    1. Assists in implementation of Country Office Security Plan

    • Provide assistance to the CO in the implementation of the Country Security Plan, Contingency Plans and the UN Security Framework, including ensuring that all UNDP personnel are covered by relevant Security Plans;
    • In conjunction with the HR Unit, ensure Staff Lists are maintained and regularly provided to UNDSS (in conjunction with the HR unit);
    • Maintain Entrance/Exit Check Lists;
    • Administer and test the UNDP CO Warden Plan;
    • Facilitate security clearances for staff in all UNDP presences in country, as needed;
    • In coordination with UNDSS, ensure availability of updated and adequate procedures for dealing with emergencies involving UNDP staff in all project locations/offices;
    • In coordination with UNDSS be prepared for 24-hour response to all security and safety related incidents involving UNDP staff.
