    Consultancy - Editing and Designing Services

    HelpAge works with four partner institutions based in Wajir, Marsabit and Mandera counties and these include the following;

    1. District Pastoralist Association (DPA)—Wajir
    2. Pastoralist Integrated Support Programme (PISP)—Marsabit
    3. Horn of Africa Women Empowerment Network Kenyan Agency (HAWENKA)—Mandera
    4. Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA)—Mandera
    5. In Turkana, we have established a HelpAge sub office in Lodwar.

    About the Assignment

    As part of its learning objective, HelpAge has been compiling a compendium of data and reports from a longitudinal study undertaken in the last three years, policy briefs, practice notes and case studies all informed by field experiences. To facilitate wider sharing of these knowledge products, we request the services of a qualified editor to support in finalizing the documents for publication. The consultant editor will work closely with the SPR team to proofread, edit and layout the set of manuscripts for publication.

    Scope of Work

    • Read 7 manuscripts, each with an average of 8 pages (3200 words) developed by HelpAge and understand the content
    • Proof read all the documents for typos, spelling errors, grammatical mistakes etc;
    • Improve the language of the documents, wherever required, without losing the meaning of the original text;
    • Layout and design of the final manuscripts as per HelpAge International publicity guidelines
    • any other task, related to the assignment, as assigned by the programme manager

    Minimum Qualifications

    The Editor must have the following qualifications:

    • A master’s degree in Social Sciences or English or Journalism/communication from a recognized University.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills
    • Good understanding of social protection and specifically cash transfer programming ecosystem in Kenya
    • Experience in editing and designing reports on social issues, including social protection, human rights
    • The consultant will be required to produce evidence of previous editorial work done

    Duration of the Consultancy

    The consultancy will take 10 working days. If you are interested and meet the above key qualifications, kindly submit the following:

    • Expression of interest not more than (3) pages.
    • Capability statement (strictly not more than 1 page).
    • Curriculum vitae of the lead and associate consultant(s).
    • Detailed financial proposal in Kenya shillings
    • Sample of at least two (2) previous reports of a similar assignment. Please include contacts (name, email, phone and institution) of the person(s) who supervised these assignments.
