    Policy Manager - Forests

    The Role:

    As a results driven Policy resource, provide research, analysis and expertise on strategic policy issues, develop related and innovative policy solutions, and drive the execution of agreed coordination and advocacy strategies related to the achievement of the Practice Goal and Outcomes. Take responsibility for the positioning of the Practice in this respect.

    Main responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic advice and facilitate the development of network policy positions and advocacy strategies related to the achievement of the Goal and Outcomes of the Practice, in consultation with the Practice Leader, and the Practice Leadership Team.
    • Lead WWF’s engagement at key policy intervention points executing WWF to influence key policy outcomes related the Practice Goal and Outcomes.
    • Liaise and co-ordinate with relevant external partners to drive powerful policy change.
    • Support the network in developing consistent and coherent internal WWF positions on issues pertinent to the Goal and Outcome.
    • Coordinate across Practices to ensure organisational policy coherence.
    • Analyse, identify, and facilitate the development of innovative policy solutions and advocacy strategies relevant to the Practice Goal and Outcomes,
    • Coordinate the professional, coherent and effective network engagement of diverse WWF teams at appropriate policy dialogues relevant to the Practice content.
    • Identify policy levers and enabling conditions which need to be addressed to achieve the Global Goals and outcomes of the Practice.
    • Raise decision-maker awareness and understanding of critical conservation issues relevant to the Practice content.
    • Provide a research and radar capacity on external policy developments relevant to the Practice content.
    • Ensure consistency and coherence to the internal and external delivery of Practice policy and global positioning.
    • Find best practice solutions to policy dilemmas related to the Practice content and share them with network colleagues and influencers in policy communities.
    • Support capacity building of colleagues in the WWF network to develop skills and experience related to fast achievement of Practice outcomes.
    • Act to ensure coherent and collaborative approaches to policy work related to the Practice content.
    • Promote regular interaction with Policy leads in other Practices to drive cross-practice policy coherence.
    • Additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Practice Leader

    Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

    • University degree in a relevant discipline e.g. environmental policy, International relations, Economics or similar disciplines.
    • Ideally 10 years’ professional policy experience in conservation, environment and development work.
    • Track record of delivering policy impact.
    • In depth understanding of global and regional environmental, natural resources and geopolitical governance.
    • Experience of working in complex organisations.
    • A strong team player, with a measurable ability to influence senior management.
    • Fluency in English- any other language/s an asset.
    • Outstanding communication, policy analysis, coordination and advocacy skills.
    • Ability to strategically influence appropriate policy development and dialogues and effect change in a constructive and solutions oriented manner.
    • Results driven, tenaciously working to meet or exceed goals.
    • Experience of working with governments, corporate sector, aid agencies, civil society, and NGOs.
    • Strategic thinking and vision.
    • Passion for conservation.
    • Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.
