Group Managing Director : Asset Management at UAP OLD MUTUAL GROUP

Reporting to the Group Chief Executive Officer, East Africa the incumbent will be responsible for formulating investment philosophy, strategy and processes to ensure overall business delivery. The role is also responsible for overall performance and management of the Investment, stockbroking and unit trust business in East Africa and accountable for achieving results through comprehensive business management.

Role Overview

• Responsible for setting the investment philosophy, strategy and process in East Africa.

• Responsible for ensuring alignment between OMIGSA and East Africa Asset Management at a philosophy level.

• Responsible for performance of overall business delivery.

• Responsible for the governance, compliance and general control environment within Asset Management.

• Responsible for the overall client relationship in the business.

• Responsible for the development of new solutions (Asset Management Products) in East Africa

• Responsible for ensuring that efficient business processes and practices are in place.

• Responsible for people management aspects of the Asset Management business.

• Responsible for the Business Unit budget

• Responsible for return on Capital

• Responsible for the quality, Internal controls and overall Risk Management within the Business Unit.

• Develops the proposition for the Asset Management business and ensures implementation in the countries in the region.

Compliance

• Responsible for the general control environment within Asset Management.

• Responsible for ensuring that all business practice are aligned to legislative requirements.

• Responsible for ensuring the compliance to governances.

Operational Efficiency

• Defines and implements investment best practice in area of responsibility.

• Drives operational excellence throughout Asset Management.

• Defines performance parameters (incl. balanced scorecard) and measurements for area under supervision.

Relationship Building

• Responsible for the overall client relationship in Asset Management.

• Initiates, maintains and manages relationships with investment clients.

• Identifies opportunities and leads transactions.

• Identifies new developments in the market and leads the development of new solutions.

Functional Effectiveness

• Delegates to, and manages, functional teams.

• Integrates functional teams.

• Develops Managers of Managers and specialists under supervision.

• Selects potential Managers of Managers to sustain pipeline.

Investment Strategy

• Responsible for setting the investment philosophy, strategy and process for Asset Management.

• Responsible for ensuring alignment between OMIGSA and Country Asset Management at a philosophy level.

Risk Management

• Responsible for Internal controls and management

• Responsible for ensuring that all business practice are aligned to legislative requirements.

• Responsible for ensuring the compliance to governances.

Capital Management

• Responsible for Return on Capital, Return on Equity and Operating Profit

• Responsible for Revenue Generation and Management of Costs

Strategy

• Responsible for setting the philosophy, strategy and process for the Business Unit.

Qualifications and experience

• Relevant Master’s degree. Professional qualification

• At least 7 years senior management experience.
