    Director of Investments

    Job description

The Director of Investments is a newly created role, established to fulfill the organisation’s growth targets in Kenya. You will be responsible carrying deals from concept to conclusion.

The Director of Investments is instrumental in evaluating, structuring, negotiating and concluding high volume of deals as quickly as possible.

If you consider yourself creative, entrepreneurial, deal-focused and you have a solid track record in making investment decisions in the SMME / consumer lending environment this could be an ideal next challenge for you.

    Key focus areas:

    • Deal-sourcing with the emphasis on drawing on your existing network to find new opportunities to invest in
    • Deal evaluation, structuring, negotiation and conclusion.
    • Client facing deal management
    • Strategic leadership of an existing team and expanding the team by taking charge of hiring, training and mentoring the team.
    • Project management
    • Quantitative decisioning, seeing ‘through the data’ to identify incorrect assumptions and / or red flags in prospective investee companies

    Ideal candidate profile:

    • Based in Nairobi, Kenya OR willing to relocate to Nairobi (frequent travelling to Kenya can also be considered but is not ideal)
    • Experience with full life-cycle of deal making: originate, negotiate and bring the transaction to a close i.e. handing the process of managing the deal, negotiating the terms and finding the structure
    • Strong client relationships, developed by managing large complex deals – simply put: someone who keeps asking: ‘how do I get this deal over the line’
    • At least 10 years’ experience, of which at least 3 at Principal /portfolio manager/ or key decision-maker level. This individual will have either made the final decision to invest, or brought the deals to the investment committee with a recommendation.
    • Preferential, but not essential, is exposure to retail credit / retail lending risk with, or some on-the-ground work experience in a consumer lending environment
    • Entrepreneurial, creative mind-set; suited to a start-up environment
