    Job Description

    Reporting to: Manager-IP Networks

    Band:3

    Department:Technology Division

    Role Purpose:

    The Engineers  will be responsible for coordinating maintenance activities to ensure 99.8% availability of all Mobile Back Hauling (MPBN networks), all faults that occurs on the MPBN are attended to in accordance with set KPI’s, Collect, compile and tabulate routing, IP, sites, services ,monitoring and optimization, do the daily analysis of all incidences and follow TT actions, Ensure availability of efficient and reliable Broadband Services & Ensure Network Operation Centre (NMC) operations are maintained by providing customer field intervention support and following up on customer fault handling.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Oversee data compilation on all routing records of IP, sites, services (MPBN records for countrywide transmission network.
    • Responsible for managing, operation and administration of the MPBN/Multi Access Service Gateways (MASG).
    • Development and implementation of maintenance processes to ensure increased system capacity and availability
    • Make recommendations on MPBN optimization and improvement & Ensure timely backups of all MPBN NE’s
    • Analyze equipment usage and communicate information on network usage trends for timely expansion of the network to meet present needs i.e. use SAM reports statistics analysis tools. Handle, analyze impact, and plan for implementation of work request/change request from customer (operator) and from equipment supplier (e.g. software updates, patches).
    • Define NMS system set-up and authority administration for collection of MPBN equipment platform surveillance alarms.
    • Development and implementation of maintenance processes to ensure increased system capacity and availability
    • Ensure dependability performance reporting provides adequate information i.e. root cause analysis, to enable appropriate service and/ or network resource improvements.
    • Ensure availability of required tools and transport to enable O$M duties to be performed smoothly
    • Close monitoring of suppliers during the implementation of projects /change requests to ensure proper installation are done.
    • Collect and analyze resource performance data to ensure that appropriate measures for optimization are taken to secure that resource performance meets specified availability or utilization criteria.
    • Prepare and implement SW and HW configuration date changes and audits for network resources i.e. license audit.
    • Implementation and tracking of WO /change request.
    • Maintaining highest service quality level and ensuring service availability within MPBN network.
    • Monitoring network resource utilization and highlighting areas in need of new hardware and software.
    • Scheduling and performing routine maintenance for all nodes and updating equipment inventories.
    • Communicate and implement policy changes that impact on the network & Follow up on fault escalated on vendor/support until closure of the case.
    • Define NMS system set-up and authority administration for collection of NW surveillance
    • Optimize the resource of the MPBN Network.
    • Linux system administration
    • Capitalize on all incidents to improve the availability & improve the surveillance of the entire MPBN network in relation with the tools and supervision. 

    Academic/ Professional Qualifications

    • Degree/Technical Diploma in Telecommunications and Information engineering, Electronic and computer engineering, or any-related technical degree from a recognized institution.
    • 2 years’ and above experience in telecommunication field or IT system management.

    Professional Knowledge

    • Remarkable knowledge in MS Office CISCO Certification preferred/Alcatel certification 3G Techno (GSM) Unix end user/administrator

    • Autonomy in a multicultural and multifunctional environment, ability to liaise with other entities and departments inside Telkom Kenya and outside Telkom Kenya Proactive ,dynamic & Good knowledge in Project management
    • Team player, Efficient and results oriented Self-motivated person able to work under minimum supervision Excellent  Organization and communication skills Precise, detailed and accurate presenter. Thorough follow up of issues.
    • Able to plan and execute – Consistent. This position is open to Kenyan citizens only.
