    Education Project Coordinator

    The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and Mogadishu), Kenya (Dadaab and Kakuma ), Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Dolo Ado, Shire,Gambella and Asosa), South Sudan (Juba, Awil, Alek and Aweril) and Yemen (Sa’naa and Aden).

    Responsibilities

    • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
    • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and asses new and better ways to assist
    • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
    • Contribute with Education specific technical competence to the development of Education strategy, Micro LogFrame, and Plan of Action
    • Contribute with Education specific technical competence to programme development, adjustment or review
    • Conduct Education specific technical assessment and present recommendations
    • Conduct Education specific technical research and document findings and recommendations
    • Provide Education specific technical input to coordination mechanism (e.g. cluster coordination) and working groups
    • Develop Education specific technical indicators and mechanism for M&E
    • Develop Education specific technical guidance, tools and mechanism
    • Contribute to organisational learning through the provision specific technical analysis, lessons learned and reports
    • Develop training modules and provide specific technical learning or/and training for project staff
    • Provide training to relevant stakeholders

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor Degree in Education or related field of study
    • P1 certificate in education is an added advantage
    • At least 5 years’ experience in supervising Education Programmes in emergency and humanitarian setting.
    • Relevant experience in Education in Emergency especially protracted crisis, and provision of Alternative Education is preferred.
    • A thorough understanding of the context, environment and education challenges in North eastern Kenya, and Somali refugees’ education context is an added advantage
    • Understanding of key protection contexts and child participation is an added advantage.
    • Experience in non-formal/Alternative basic education approaches for disadvantaged children and youth is an added advantage.
    • Experience in non-formal/Alternative basic education approaches for disadvantaged children and youth is an added advantage.
    • Contextual understanding of education programming in Arid and Semi-Arid lands

    Education field

    • College / University, Bachelor’s degree

    Personal qualities

    • Strong analytical, administration and documentation skills in the management of educational institutions or programs consisting of primary education.
    • Experience in proposal and report writing and excellent computer skills.
    • Proven commitment and passion in inspiring disadvantaged children to achieve their full potential in education and ability to inspire others with the commitment
    • Good communication skills and Knowledge of the local language (Somali) – if different than English
    • Project implementation supervisory skills
    • Ability to resolve individual and group conflicts
    • Ability to work with minimum supervision and deliver on deadlines
    • Possess high cultural awareness and sensitivity
    • Knowledge of Human Rights and Humanitarian programming principle
    • Fluency in English language both Written and Verbal
    • Very good knowledge of the area and somali context

    We offer

    • Duty station: Dadaab
    • Contract period is up to December 2018. Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions, The candidate will observe NRC’s code of conduct and working hours for the NRC Office in Dadaab.
