    Entry at Kshs 123,750 up to a maximum of Ksks 190,000 per month

    Work Station Deployment to any court station within the Country

    Requirements

    For appointment to the position of Resident Magistrate, an applicant must be in possession of the following minimum qualifications:-

    • A Law Degree from any recognized University;
    • A Diploma from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal Education;
    • Admission to the Roll of Advocates;
    • Proficiency in computer applications;
    • Must not have any pending complaints with the Advocates Complaints Commission, the Disciplinary Committee or adverse report from current and previous employer(s);
    • Three (3) years post admission experience either in private practice or other employment and a current practicing certificate.
    • Must possess the qualifications set out in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    -The successful candidates will be posted to any court station in the country:Specific duties will include:-

    • Presiding over Resident Magistrate’s Court in any part of Kenya with jurisdiction as stipulated in various statutes;
    • Performing Deputy Registrars duties as stipulated in various statues;
    • Overseeing the operations of the court(s) and management of staff under his - her charge; and
    • Carrying out a wide range of administrative functions for those heading stations.

    Method of Application

    Interested and qualified persons are asked to make their applications by:-

    Filling an Online Application for Employment Form available at the Judiciary jobs portal. Applicants should upload soft copies of the following documents to the online application:-

    • A letter of application,
    • A detailed and updated curriculum vitae, to include background information such as community service, financial discipline, pro bono activity, involvement as a party in litigation and involvement in political activity including financial contribution to political party
      • parties (if any) and criminal record, legal
      • professional engagement for the last five (5) years, three (3) professional referees and two (2) character references who can verify and comment on the applicant’s past and present employment,
    • Applicant’s recent coloured passport size photographs,
    • Three (3) samples of any professional writings, including but not limited to judgments, advocacy submissions in courts, scholarly writings or any legal publications that the applicant has authored,
    • Declaration of income and liabilities as at the time of making the application, using the prescribed forms “The Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities Form JSC 2b” 
    • Certified copies of testimonials, professional certificates and academic transcripts.

    Shortlisted Candidate will be required to submit copies of clearance certificates from the following bodies:-

    • • Kenya Revenue Authority,
    • • Higher Education Loans Board,
    • • Law Society of Kenya,
    • • Directorate of Criminal Investigation,
    • • Advocates Complaints Commission,
    • • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and
    • • A recognized Credit Reference Bureau.
    • (2) Applicants are also required to forward one (1) hard copy of the completed Employment Application Form JSC 2 for non-public officers or JSC 2A for public officers which can be downloaded from www.judicialservicecommission.go.ke (Resources Job adverts) and to attach all the documents cited in item No. 1 (a to f) above.
