JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities

• Planning of all seeding, growing and harvesting activities
• Managing all on-farm activities
• Plant health
• Stock control
• Preparation of Standard Operating Procedures and health and safety requirements, and ensuring that all farm activities are carried out accordingly
• Trialling of new products
• Environmental control system management
• Pest control
• Nutrient balancing
• Water testing
• Post-harvest processing including storage and packaging in preparation of sale
• Liaising with sales staff to make sure they know what produce is going to be available and when
• Providing regular Farm Operations reports to the management team
• Staff Training
• Conducting Farm Tours
• Monthly reporting on progress and targets
• System maintenance

Requirements

• A university graduate with a degree in agriculture, biology, ecology, or environmental sciences.
• Extensive practical experience and knowledge about cultivating common greenhouse crops.
• Strong experience with hydroponics farming (nutrient formulae, preparing solutions, nutrient requirements, deficiencies, toxicities, pH, Do, conductivity, salinity, growth regulators)
• Knowledge of organic farming and permaculture techniques
• Keen on learning, growing, and contributing with a small team of experienced people in a dynamic environment
• Knowledge in hydrology, fluid dynamics, and aquatics biology would be an asset
• Ability to work independently while contributing in a team environment
• Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in all MS Office applications.
• Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be comfortable taking initiative and working with minimal supervision.
