    Food Fund Deal Principal - Nairobi

    Job description

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CAPABILITIES

    At Phatisa, people are the core of our business and we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining top talent. We are looking for candidates with three to five years of industry related experience in private equity, investment banking or corporate finance. A track record of successful transactions and the ability to originate new deals are required.

    The key responsibilities are as follows:

    • Originate new investments by building and managing a strong deal pipeline in the region.
    • Prepare and present suitable investment documentation to the PFF 2 Investment Committee, portfolio companies and/or Phatisa Manco.
    • Lead and manage all elements of the deal process, including valuations, business plans, financial modelling, legal structuring, 100-day plan, etc.
    • Manage financial, commercial, operational, tax, legal, environmental, social and governance requirements and all other due diligence exercises.
    • Negotiate legal documentation in each transaction, including term sheets, share purchase, shareholder and debt agreements and service contracts for key management.
    • Assist and jointly drive value creation with the portfolio management team in managing portfolio companies, including representing Phatisa at board level, focusing on improving the company competitive strategy and operations.
    • Negotiate portfolio company acquisitions, follow-on investment funding and exits.
    • Train and mentor junior deal team members.

    CORE SKILLS

    • Strong three-to-five-year African deal execution track record; food sector experience would beneficial.
    • Comfortable presenting, networking and originating deals.
    • Skilled in all elements of a financial transaction i.e. valuations, financial modelling, business plan origination, financial structuring, shareholder agreements and exits.
    • Highly analytical, great attention to detail with strong written and verbal presentation skills.
    • High emotional intelligence – a team player with presence and gravitas.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Candidate requires as a minimum the qualification of a chartered accountant or equivalent (or), CFA charter holder with accounting background (or), MBA or other advanced degree that is applicable.
    • Fluent in English; French speaking would be advantageous.
    • Experience working for a disciplined and reputable private equity house, investment bank and/or corporate finance firm, with a demonstrated track record.
