    Consultant -Grants Coordinator East Africa

    Primary purpose of the consultancy: The Grants Coordinator will lead country teams through the development of the proposal, design of the action and writing of the proposal. The Grants Coordinator will manage this process in country offices, local partners and other stakeholders to ensure a timely, compliant and competitive proposal. The position reports to the Country Director and is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Develop high quality, clear, timely, cost-efficient and competitive proposals, including budgets in collaboration with programme and finance colleagues, country directors, thematic advisers, and Helsinki based global grant unit.
    • Coordinate the quality checks and approvals ahead of submission in collaboration with Helsinki based grant unit.
    • Coordinates submission of proposals, meeting the deadline, with global grant unit in global calls, or processes that work through donor portals, in locally negotiated processes present the proposal to the donor and take part in donor negotiations.
    • Monitor and map new funding opportunities at the local level based on FCA country strategies.
    • Coordinates new partnership development with programme colleagues and country directors.
    • Represent FCA in donor meetings and information sessions gathering intelligence on funding opportunities for the East Africa programmes.

    Competence and Personal Requirements:

    • Master’s Degree or equivalent.
    • Understanding of human rights-based approach and other development and humanitarian work related national and international policies, strategies, UN conventions and international laws.
    • Over 5 years of working experience in development cooperation and humanitarian assistance programs within an international environment.
    • Demonstrated experience in programmatic development leading to funded programmes and growing portfolios.
    • Excellent networker and partnership broker.
    • Strong conceptual and analytical skills and demonstrated organizational, management and fundraising skills.
    • Knowledge and experience of cooperation with governmental and non-governmental agencies in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian assistance.
    • Conversant in project cycle management, project planning, fundraising and knowledge management.
    • Knowledge of the context in the Eastern Africa.
    • Knowledge on one or more of the FCA’s strategic themes (Quality Education, Livelihoods, Peace).
    • Ability to work under pressure in an organized and responsive manner and independently.
    • Ability to identify donor intelligence for appropriate timely action.
    • Commitment to continuous learning and feedback gathering.
    • Result oriented, problem solving and a team player.
