Senior Manager, Operations (East Africa) at Greenlight Planet

The Role:

Greenlight Planet is looking for a Senior Manager to lead our Operations Team in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda). This role will report directly to the Global CFO / Head of Operations overseeing the inventory planning, supply chain, last mile distribution, import, export, transportation and reverse logistics of three of our key markets. The role will lead 26 members within the East Africa Operations Team responsible for the monthly movement of over 50,000 units of solar products delivered by 3,000+ field sales agents and 100+ retail locations.

Key responsibilities for the role:

• Team management: Providing guidance for team member’s careers; driving professional growth within the team, mentoring individuals to develop valuable skillsets and leading development and continuous improvement within the operations team.
• Driving operational efficiency through meeting KPIs including inventory turnover rates, zero stock outs, imports clearance and ensuring transportation and departmental costs are within budget.
• Supply chain and inventory planning: Monitoring the inventory needs of our East African entities and coordinating with sales and manufacturing departments to meet business needs and timelines.
• Inventory management: Overseeing inventory management to ensure optimized inventory levels and safekeeping of stock, lean stock keeping in risk areas out of central warehouse.
• Last mile distribution process management: Designing and implementing efficient processes for the last mile distribution of our Easy Buy Direct business; Overseeing the process of product removals and completeness of reverse logistics kits.
• Operational Risk Management: Identifying key operational risks and implementing formal root cause and corrective action programs.
• Systems and process design: Coordinating with technology teams to ensure company systems including applications meet Operational needs.
• Monitoring of trade regulations: Closely monitoring any changes in tax/ duty within the region and escalating accordingly
• Partnership Management: Liaising with customers’ operations teams to ensure delivery needs are met on time.
• Standardising processes across markets to ensure consistency throughout the region.
• Maintaining a procurement policy for use in-country
• Any other business as assigned by your supervisor

The ideal Senior Manager Operations:

• Must demonstrate previous management experience, with ability to lead professionals and guide their career development.
• Has an MBA, B. Science/ Master’s degree in Manufacturing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
• Has over 7 years work experience in a supply chain and logistics environment. Last mile distribution experience preferred.
• Has previous experience managing a team at a country level.
• Is highly analytical with high degree of competency in ERP, Excel/Google Sheets, BI software (Looker, Microsoft BI, Tableau) and other analytical tools
• Demostrates knowledge of the relevant legislation pertaining to the region
• Is knowledgeable about import/export, transport routes, warehousing and distribution network.
• Has experience in business planning, procurement, warehouse, retail management and fleet management.
• Is open to traveling 30% of the time
• Demonstrates humility
• Is passionate about working with rural, off-grid consumers and resolving their issues.
• Is driven by the social mission to provide energy to consumers and employment to rural communities.
• Should be a value driven individual.
