    Regional Policy & Advocacy Officer

    PATH is recruiting a Regional Policy and Advocacy Officer to provide advocacy capacity strengthening, tool development, and other technical support to policy and advocacy initiatives in Kenya, Uganda, DRC and South Africa as well as with regional bodies within the EAC and SADC. She/he will develop and support others to implement advocacy strategies, create and produce versatile communication products for global health or development, or that target policymakers or decision-makers globally, in the East or Southern Africa context. The position will support country-specific and regional projects focusing on topics including maternal, newborn, child health (MNCH), immunization, research and development, and other areas led by PATH programs.

    The Regional Policy and Advocacy officer will report to the Regional Advocacy Director based in Nairobi, Kenya and work closely with the Deputy Director based in Washington, DC, USA.

    Specific Duties And Responsibilities

    • Support the design of initiatives to build the capacity of PATH country-based programs and partners to more effectively engage in advocacy, strengthen linkages between country programs, and facilitate opportunities for south-to-south collaboration and learning.
    • Develop advocacy tools, frameworks and curriculum to strengthen advocacy capacity of PATH staff and partners.
    • Organize and facilitate workshops to grow technical advocacy skills and design associated strategies.
    • Liaise closely with the Regional Advocacy Director, Deputy Director, and the Regional Communications Officer to facilitate shared learning and knowledge management across various country teams within the APP program.
    • Support PATH advocacy technical leads working on maternal, newborn, child health, and immunization in Kenya, DRC, and Uganda and other PATH programs to generate materials and conduct other desk-based work to support the delivery of specific country advocacy projects and provide strategic support.
    • Work with the M&E team to support country teams track implementation of MNCH and R&D activities across the various countries. Work closely with the country advocacy leads to facilitate cross-country learning.
    • Support advocacy engagements in regional advocacy efforts, including liaising and representing PATH with African regional bodies and associated civil society advocacy groups.
    • In collaboration with the regional advocacy director and key PATH stakeholders, identify and lead business development opportunities to support PATH advocacy growth, including proposal development.
    • Participate in APP strategy and work plan meetings to contribute toward the development and execution of the programs objectives and priorities and to ensure close linkages between PATH’s evidence gathering, implementation and advocacy efforts.

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    • Master’s degree in public health, public policy, health economics, international development, communications or related field (or advanced degree).
    • A minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience in public health policy and advocacy related work.
    • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing policy and advocacy strategies to achieve health-related outcomes in African countries. Experience providing technical assistance to advocacy projects in multiple countries desired.
    • Demonstrated experience developing and adapting high-quality tools and templates for advocates, such as strategy frameworks, policy and financing analysis tools, and topical briefing materials.
    • Experience designing content, facilitation guides and facilitating workshops and trainings.
    • In-depth knowledge about policy-making processes in at least one African country and experience interfacing with and navigating Government entities and policy makers.
    • Self-initiator, able to work in team environment with minimal supervision.
    • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, and unpredictable stakeholder expectations.
    • Articulate communicator, excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other information processing software.
    • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and to competent track timelines and deliverables with minimal guidance.
    • General knowledge of public health, health systems, and challenges affecting communities in the African context, including RMNCAH and primary health care.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-country, team-based organizational structure. Flexibility to work within multiple time zones and multiple teams across the globe.

    Must have legal authorization to work in Kenya.
