    Head Teacher

    Responsibilities

    • Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
    • Teaching according to their educational needs, the students assigned to the teacher including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the students in the School and elsewhere.
    • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students.
    • Being responsible in whole or in part for the running of co-curricular activities and educational visits during and outside the standard school day, on evenings and weekends.

    Other Activities

    • Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students and of any class or group of students assigned to the Teacher.
    • Providing guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and making relevant records and reports.
    • Making records of and reports on the personal and social needs of students.
    • Communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the school.
    • Communicating and consulting with the parents of students.
    • Participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.

    Assessments and Reports

    • Providing for and contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual and groups of students.

    Appraisals

    • Participating in any arrangements for the appraisal of the teacher’s performance and that of other teachers.

    Review, Further Training and Development

    • Reviewing from time to time the teacher’s methods of teaching and programs of work.
    • Participating in arrangements for the teacher’s further training and professional development as a teacher.

    Educational Methods

    • Advising and co-operating with the manager, deputy heads, heads of schools and other teachers(or any one or more of them) on the preparation and development of course of study, teaching materials, teaching programs, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral arrangements.

    Discipline, Health and Safety

    • Maintaining good order and discipline among the students and safeguarding their health and safety, both when they are authorized to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorized school activities elsewhere.

    Staff Meetings

    • Participating in meetings at the school relating to the curriculum, administration of the school including pastoral arrangements.

    Cover

    • Supervising and so far as practicable teaching any students whose teacher is not available to teach them.

    Public Examinations

    • Participating in arrangements to prepare students for public examinations and assessing students for the purpose of such examinations.
    • Recording and reporting such assessments.
    • Participating in arrangements for students’ presentation for and supervision during such examinations.

    Management

    • Contributing to the selection for appointment and professional development of other teachers and non-teaching staff, including the induction and assessment of new and probationary teachers.
    • Coordinating and managing the work of other teachers.
    • If required, taking part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum, organization and pastoral functions of the school.
    • Any other responsibilities and duties (whether or not involving teaching) as the employer may reasonably direct the teacher to perform.
    • The teacher shall be available to perform his or her professional duties at such times and places as the employer may reasonably require during the school year.
    • Time spent travelling to and from the place of work shall not count toward the time spent in carrying out the teacher’s professional duties.
    • The teacher may be required to supervise students and/or activities at midday or to fairly allocate such duties among other school teachers.
    • The teacher shall in addition to the requirements set out in the paragraphs above work such additional hours as may be needed to enable the teacher to discharge effectively his/her professional duties including in particular (but without limitation) the marking of students’ work, the writing of reports on students and the preparation of lessons, teaching materials and teaching programs.

     Qualifications:

    • Significant experience as a Head teacher (at least 4 years) with a sustained record of school improvement.
    • Experience of the British National Curriculum and Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) required.
    • Experience of Executive Headship and/or supporting another Head teacher
    • Evidence of successfully leading and sustaining educational initiatives.
    • Knowledge and understanding of:
    • Leading change, creativity and innovation
    • Strategies for communication, both within and beyond the schools.
    • Strategies to promote individual, team and organizational development
    • Building and sustaining a leaning community across a number of schools
    • Ability to establish successful relationships at all levels and have good communication between skills both verbal and written.
    • Ability to develop and maintain a clear vision and lead others to plan and deliver it.
