The platform

Swag is an open source e-learning platform designed to provide educational experiences that are valuable and accessible to all learners. It provides a gamified, interactive learning
environment to deliver educational content and uses the the xAPI specification to track user interaction and provide insights about learner engagement. Having previously been built in WordPress and an older version of Ember.js, we are in the process of rebuilding the platform from the ground up, and are dedicated to creating a platform that is secure and respects the privacy of our users. This rebuild is part of a project called Wikonnect with several partners.

Who you are

We are looking for a part-time Information Security, Data Security, and Privacy expert who can advise our team in building a platform that will be robust and secure. The ideal candidate will:

• Have previous experience with designing and implementing information security systems in open source software.
• Be knowledgeable about database and server security
• Be knowledgeable about the requirements and processes- for GDPR compliance and Kenyan law
• Be knowledgeable about ISO 27000 security standards
• Have strong written communication skills
• Be up to date on current on IT security and privacy trends
• Have a dedication to protecting user data

What you will be doing

• You will be working closely with our software development team to design our platform, create and communicate policies, strategies, and processes that will ensure our system is secure.
• You will train our current team on standard practices and methods for testing and detect-ing vulnerabilities. You will communicate current needs as well as anticipated updates that may be required as the platform user base increases.
• You will work with our leadership team to develop and enhance an information security
  management framework.
