    Head of Careers

    The Role

St Andrew’s, Turi, seek to appoint a dynamic and experienced individual to lead the School’s careers strategy and support our students as they plan for the future. At the heart of the School’s vision is to ensure that all students are real-world ready and equipped to thrive in a rapidly-changing world.  Mindful of the ever-changing post-18 and employment landscape, the successful candidate would be able to support students in their plans for university in the UK, US or around the world, degree apprenticeships, and employment. Working with the Head of College the successful applicant would lead the UCAS or equivalent application processes and develop strong links with appropriate universities.

The successful candidate would be based in the Sixth Form College, but would work across the whole School from ages 13-18 to embed an exciting programme to help students look towards preparing for the future.  An ability to offer an academic subject is essential.

All staff are involved in the wider life of St Andrew’s, including the School’s vibrant co-curricular and boarding programmes; an ability to contribute to these would be advantageous.

    Person Specification

Working at St Andrew’s, Turi, is an exciting and dynamic experience. Our desire is to recruit committed and resourceful staff, who are looking to not only develop their skills and leadership capacities, but also embrace new experiences and challenges.

Essential to working with us are:

    • The need to be able to support the School's aims and Christian ethos
    • A clear understanding and experience of the University application process, specifically in the UK and North America.
    • A good degree in your teaching subject and relevant teaching experience
    • Experience in pastoral care (boarding school experience is desirable, but not essential)
    • A strong work ethic and experience of working in a team

Beyond that we want staff who are committed to allowing students to thrive; first-class communicators; passionate about the subjects and students they teach; creative and diligent in their planning; and, given life in a full boarding school, are adaptable, energetic and resilient.

    The Package

There is a generous overall remuneration package as detailed below (the cost of living in Kenya is significantly lower than in the UK):

    • Salary: The successful applicant will be placed on the Turi Pay Scale and there will be an additional allowance for the role.
    • Accommodation: suitable rent free accommodation will be provided as a taxable benefit. Domestic and gardening help is arranged by the School, but paid for, at local rates, by the applicant.
    • School fees (where applicable): there is a 100% fee remission for staff children throughout the School; places are subject to the School’s normal entry requirements. Fee remission is a taxable benefit.
    • Medical care: all members of staff and their families (below 18 yrs) are covered under a comprehensive insurance scheme.
    • Pension: the School operates a defined contribution pension scheme in which the employer and employee each contribute 6% of the monthly salary.  For employees leaving Kenya at the end of their contract the full value of the contributions, plus accumulated interest, can be withdrawn from the scheme.
    • Relocation: outward and return flights for the applicant, and for his/her spouse and dependent children [up to the age of 18] as applicable, together with a freight allowance, at the beginning and end of the contract period, are paid for by the School. This is applicable to staff recruited from outside the country.
    • Meals: these are provided during term time as a taxable benefit.
    • Facilities: extensive recreational facilities are open to use by staff and their families. The onsite Phoenix Club, serving a wide range of food and beverages, acts as a wonderful social hub for the staff community and their families throughout the year.
