    Junior School – Music Teacher

    Role Summary

    The role of the Music Teacher is to develop and implement a music programme for the PYP curriculum in addition to teaching music theory, aural skills and practical techniques to pupils. The teacher will also be involved in planning, implementing a program of instruction and lesson plans. S/he is expected to demonstrate creativity, strong communication skills and the ability to build a caring rapport with students and colleagues. Knowledge and experience of teaching the IB PYP curriculum. Candidates without prior IB experience will be considered.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implement a relevant, challenging and rigorous music curriculum through planning and delivery of high-quality lesson
    • Work closely with the Primary Curriculum Coordinator and PYP colleagues towards the effective planning, preparation and delivery of the music curriculum;
    • Teach instrumental music and/or voice to individuals and groups
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress
    • Prepare students for school concerts and music experiences
    • Inculcate in students a love for learning Music
    • Review and update existing curriculum maps and related documents
    • Organize, oversee and coordinate the school’s Annual Music concert and related events
    • Organize and manage teaching and learning resources.

    The requirements

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education/Bachelor’s degree with PGCE and a specialization in Music
    • 5 years’ teaching experience in an international school
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural collaborative team and environment
    • Be conversant with the use of technology as a teaching and learning tool
    • Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate (if already working in Kenya)
    • Certificate of good conduct.
