    Junior School – Special Education Needs (SEN) Coordinator


    The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Junior School welcomes applications from dedicated and enthusiastic professional educators for the following position effective December, 2021.

    SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS COORDINATOR  (EXPAT)

    The SEN Coordinator is directly responsible for the assessment of academic, social, emotional, and behavioral domains utilizing problem-solving and standardized evaluations. The School Psychologist monitors the completion of case study evaluations and participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) conferences and problem-solving meetings designing systems, programs and services that maximize students’ social, emotional, and educational success. In collaboration with staff, families, students, and communities the school psychologist promotes effective educational environments.

    The requirements

    Qualifications

    1. Master’s degree in Educational Psychology with a specialization in school counseling and learning difficulties.
    2. Certification in methods of educational assessments and access arrangements; systematic processes to collect data, translate assessment results into empirically based decisions about service delivery and evaluate outcomes of services.
    3. Certification in Teaching of English as an additional language.
    4. Knowledge of learning processes, appropriate instructional interventions to meet students’ needs, and the ability to implement and assess their effectiveness.
    5. Knowledge of behavioral mental health, collaborative and/or consultation models and methods and their application

     Essential Job Functions

    1. Conduct psychological assessments and interpret results for students, determining IEPs, participating in conferences, team meetings, and problem-solving meetings.
    2. Monitor, communicate, compile reports, and collect data related to IEP’s and pastoral support through the proficient use of technology.
    3. Provide individual, group, and family therapy according to the IEP and other pastoral requirements.
    4. Provide support services to parents/guardians as needed.
    5. Lead crisis intervention efforts and provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behavior intervention plans.
    6. Contribute to program development that furthers the integration of social, coping, and problem solving in the classroom.
    7. Provide assistance to staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodation for students.
    8. Evaluate and/or translate research into practice and understand research design and statistics in sufficient depth to plan and conduct investigations and program evaluations for improvement of services.
    9. Integrate psychological services into the classroom environment as appropriate.
    10. Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide the possibility of pastoral services to students and families.
    11. Provide and/or assist in professional development for staff, parents, and/or community
    12. Participate in professional growth activities on a yearly basis including recertification as needed, workshops, in-services, professional reading materials etc.
