    Clinical Audiologist (Temporary), Surgery

    Responsibilities:

    • Examine patients with ear, hearing or balance and other related problems using equipment such as audiometers, speech analysers
    • Conduct the prescribed hearing tests, understand, interpret findings and determine if hearing impairment is conductive or sensorineural in nature
    • Develop a treatment plan in audiology that considers the impact of disability to the patient
    • Provide counselling for the patient and close family members on how to best listen and communicate using methods such as lip reading or any other available option to include technology
    • Teach patients alternate forms of communication such as sign language and lip reading
    • Providing patients with hearing aids or refer for potential cochlear implant
    • Educate patients on ways to prevent or delay hearing loss
    • Maintain records of audiograms and ensure patient confidentiality
    • Maintain an orderly, efficient and timely flow of patients in conjunction with the supervisor
    • Instructs patients and family regarding investigations and follow-up clinic appointments
    • Observes infection control practices and maintains a clean and safe work environment for staff and patients
    • Demonstrate awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals when necessary
    • Maintains open communication with the patient and the multidisciplinary team in the clinics to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Participates in data collection and monitoring of unit-based quality indicators
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines for staff and patients reporting any accidents, incidents, hazards or equipment defects in accordance with laid down policies

    Requirements:

    • Diploma in Clinical Audiology
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Experience in a busy audiology facility with expertise in paediatrics
    • Demonstrate adequate knowledge as well as skills to conduct and interpret pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry transient evoked otoacoustic emissions, brain evoked response auditory/ auditory brainstern response, neonatal screening, and visual reinforcement audiology

    Grants Finance Manager (Fixed Term Contract for 2 years), Finance

    Job Purpose/Summary 

    The Grants Finance Manager will be responsible for supporting programmatic and research grants leading to execution of projects on a stipulated budget and compliance environment.  The position holder will also be responsible for accurate and timely reporting to the project lead, granting agencies, donors, leading external audits if required for any grants, ensuring accurate recording of grants and donation related transactions in the general ledger, ensuring projects have sufficient cash flow to run and deliver on tasks assigned by the Senior Manager Finance and Regional Director Finance.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities 

    Pre-award support

    • Working closely with faculty, principal investigator, Deans, Directors, Grants & contracts department, and Bilateral & Multilateral department in preparing/reviewing of proposed project financial proposal. This includes review of checklists to confirm that the university has accurately costed project costs and opting for indirect cost recoveries as permitted by the granting agencies.
    • Review of draft contracts to ensure that the financial position of the university is accurately reflected and protected.

    • Reviewing grant agreements for university sub-awards to ensure that they are compliant with the main donor requirements and University financial policies.

     Implementation support

    • Review/ Approve requisitions from faculty, principal investigator, Deans, Directors, Grants & contracts department, Bilateral & Multilateral department to ensure that they are as per the approved grant budget and are compliant to the grant agency requirement and procurement policies.
    • Timely and accurate preparation of monthly reports to project leads and to granting agencies of the financial position of the project.
    • Continuous training of project staff and sub awardee on the compliance environment.
    • Preparation of funds withdrawal applications to ensure that the projects have sufficient cash flow; developing a strong mechanism of treasury management related to grants and donations.
    • Monthly project accounts to ensure that core recovery is captured accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Timely and accurate recording of grants and donation related transactions in the financial system (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Treasury).
    • Lead and conclude annual grant specific audits done by external auditors in a timely manner.
    • Submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to AKU Finance Head Office.

    Project close-out

    • Supporting the PI to close the financial operations of the project at the end of the project.
    • Working closely with the Grants and Contract departments to ensure that the various project budget costs are deactivated and that all outstanding matters have been resolved.

    Team Leadership 

    • Manage the departmental succession plan, performance appraisal process, training needs & calendar and leave schedules for the department team members.

    Relevant Experience and Qualifications 

    • Master’s degree in business/finance.
    • CPA or ACCA or CMA qualification or equivalent
    • Demonstrated 6-8 years’ work experience in a granting agency, international development agencies or academic institution with exposure to financial planning, reporting, analysis, grant budgets and day to day accounting functions.
    • Demonstrated supervisory skills/experience in managing a team.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. 
    • Good people management skills.

    Pharmaceutical Technologist, Outreach Clinic Capital Centre

    Responsibilities:

    • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
    • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
    • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
    • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
    • Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.
    • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
    • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
    • Deliver drug discharges to patients in the ward where applicable
    • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
    • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
    • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
    • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
    • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
    • Compile daily satellite reports.
    • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
    • Report any special indicators allocated.

    Requirements:

    • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
    • Registered with The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association
    • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    • 2 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
    • Valid Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

    Medical Officer, Outreach Clinic Meru

    Responsibilities:

    • Review and examine patients consistently by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies in compliance with evidence based practice and established protocols.
    • Monitor acute and chronically ill patients’ progress on a regular basis.
    • Initiate discussions with patients and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services.

    • Work closely with members of the clinical and non-clinical teams to provide patient centric, coordinated care, reduce errors and waste and create efficiency in resource utilization.
    • Actively participate in clinic quality initiatives in collaboration with the clinic management and Quality and Patient Safety team.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent
    • Successful completion of at least 2-years post-graduate Internship.
    • Registration by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
    • Valid Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate
