    Clinical Nurse & Clinic In Charge, Outreach Clinic Ruiru

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee day-to-day operations of the centre, ensuring efficient service delivery and smooth running of all activities.
    • Plan and manage staffing through duty rotas to ensure adequate coverage and high-quality patient care.
    • Lead implementation of quality assurance, infection control, and patient safety standards at the centre
    • Monitor stock levels, supplies usage, and accurate data entry to support audits and reporting.
    • Serve as the primary link between the centre, specialist doctors, and Outreach Management to ensure effective communication and issue resolution.
    • Complete head to toe assessment and re-assessment of patients to identify their care needs
    • Develop written care plans based on patients’ needs, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of interventions
    • Carry out hemodynamic monitoring to include vital signs, neurological and fluid status; labs and radiological evaluations
    • Document all assessment data, investigation results, care given, discussions with the multidisciplinary team, family/patient interactions in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner
    • Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and report adverse reactions promptly.
    • Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Aga khan University Hospital Guidelines on waste management.
    • Prepare for and assist physicians to perform various procedures in the clinic.
    • Maintain adequate airway management to include oxygen therapy, nebulization and suctioning
    • Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol
    • Promptly report both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences
    • Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching  
    • Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies, and perform timely safety checks on restraints, examination coaches, oxygen source and other medical equipment in the clinic.
    • Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of clinic stock drugs and consumables
    • Care for equipment through proper cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of non-functional equipment to the Operations manager
    • Follow discharge procedure of the out patients according to hospital protocol, and ensure follow up appointments are made where needed.
    • Participate in clinic-based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, audits, spot checks and skill checks

    Requirements:

    • Registered Nurse from a recognized school of nursing or University
    • Current licensure with the Nursing Council of Kenya
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Minimum requirement of 5 years’ continuous clinical experience in medical surgical Nursing.
    • Experience in leadership roles within a clinical environment will be an advantage
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of the current practices in general nursing in an outpatient set up

    Full Time Faculty - ENT Surgeon, Department of Surgery

    Job Summary

    • The Department of Surgery is seeking an ENT Surgeon to coordinate and monitor high quality educational programme; contribute to scholarship; and provide exemplary clinical service in line with the departmental practice plan for the delivery of quality services to patients and their families.

    Responsibilities

    • Assisting residents in their rotation and implementing and monitoring educational programmes while ensuring programme outcomes are attained.
    • Assisting in the setting of examinations and ensuring formative assessments of the residents/interns are duly filled.
    • Promoting and facilitating residents’ research, participating in scholarly activities including educational and clinical research and facilitating the publication of residents’ research work.
    • Generate audits from clinical practice to align with expected clinical outcomes. 
    • Provides pre-determined clinical service; outpatient and inpatient.
    • Establish clinical services aligned to areas of interest and specialization and attending to emergency cases as and when required. 
    • Prepare a schedule of regular clinical teaching activity.

     Requirements

    • Applicants must have a Master of Medicine in Surgery.
    • Applicants must have completed their Fellowship program in ENT.
    • S/he must be registered or eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Council as a sub-specialist. 
    • Should have a minimum of 4 years’ clinical experience at a reputable institution.
    • Should have a minimum academic position of Senior Instructor.
    • Should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Experience in leadership roles in medical education and clinical fields.

    Clinical Nurse, Medical Surgical & Paediatrics Consulting Clinics

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepares consultation rooms, ensuring stocks, linen, basic equipment and stationery are available at all times
    • Performs basic assessment for all patients attending the clinic and designs care which is specific and appropriate to individual needs. Assessment includes measurement of vital signs, height, and weight
    • Confirms imaging and pathology reports and ensures these are present in CARE 2000 before patient is seen by the doctor
    • Prepares patient for physician examination and acts as chaperone where necessary
    • Maintains an orderly, efficient, and timely flow of patients
    • Assists the physician with clinic procedures where applicable and performs basic tests such as Glucose test and urinalysis
    • Proficiency in wound care
    • Assesses patient and family education needs and provides appropriate teaching based on their needs
    • Arranges for patients’ admission to the wards when necessary
    • Ensures safety of special populations such as paediatric, the elderly, psychiatric and patients with various forms of disabilities
    • Instructs patient and family regarding medications, investigations and follow up clinic appointments
    • Demonstrate awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals when necessary.
    • Observes infection control practices and maintains a clean and safe work environment for staff and patients
    • Maintains open communication with the patient and the multidisciplinary team in the clinics to ensure customer satisfaction
    • Participates in data collection and monitoring of clinic’s quality indicators
    • Is accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock, drugs and consumables
    • Responsible for safe use of equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift checks of the inventory and timely reporting of non-functional equipment to the unit supervisor
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines for staff and patients, reporting any accidents, incidents, hazards or equipment defects in accordance with laid down policies
    • Participates in unit-based nursing education, quality improvement (QI) projects, Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC), audits, spot checks and skill checks

    Requirements:

    • KRCHN /BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
    • Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
    • Certificate in Basic life support (BLS)
    • Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in Medical-Surgical nursing
