    Technical Director, USAID Scaling Inclusive Food Systems

    Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

    • Provide technical support to the Chief of Party
    • Responsible for leading the technical implementation of Scaling Inclusive Food System’s activities
    • Supervise 3-5 project staff members to drive market systems development
    • Monitor and follow up on critical management and planning issues to ensure effective and timely project execution.
    • Manage review and finalization of internal and external project documents, including donor deliverables, presentation decks, studies and technical reports.
    • In collaboration with the COP and Finance and Administrative Manager, support budget tracking, contract modifications, deliverable tracking against budget, and administrative follow-up.
    • Support recruitment and contracting of long- and short-term staff and consultants as needed.
    • Plan, organize and participate in project meetings, workshops, seminars and stakeholder events.
    • In collaboration with the COP, ensure that programming execution meets TechnoServe quality standards.
    • Assist COP with other strategic and operational tasks as required by the project.

     Basic Qualifications

    • A master’s degree in agricultural development, agricultural economics/marketing, agribusiness or a related field.
    • At least 8 years of experience as the technical manager for donor-funded value chain, M4P, and/or Market Systems Development projects integrating inclusion issues.
    • Demonstrated success using facilitation in at least one of the following: the USAID value chain approach, M4P, or Market Systems Development approach, which led to greater competitiveness and inclusiveness in markets
    • Strong project management skills including the ability to anticipate demand and manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting tight deadlines.
    • Prior work experience in countries in East Africa. Experience working in Kenya strongly preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written presentation skills as well as collaboration and interpersonal skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience with conducting market systems and value chain analysis and developing work plans.
    • Results-oriented, with demonstrated experience achieving project targets.
    • Previous experience working with USAID.
    • Proficiency in Kiswahili

    Required Languages

    • Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

    • Detail orientation, including strong organizational, analytical and quantitative skills.
    • Proven team player with strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Deputy Chief of Party, Kenya Local Food Systems

    Job Summary:

    TechnoServe seeks a Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) for an anticipated local food systems program in Kenya. The DCOP will support the Chief of Party (COP) in managing day-to-day operations and will have decision making authority in the absence of the COP.  The DCOP will monitor and follow up on critical management and planning issues to ensure effective and timely project execution.     Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in agricultural economics, international development, business, economics, public policy, or other relevant areas.
    • At least 8 years’ professional experience in experience in relevant private sector or development programs. 12 years’ experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Strong budget management and financial analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel.
    • Experience supporting USAID-funded programs and familiarity with USAID regulations and procedures.
    • Prior work experience in countries in East Africa. Experience working in Kenya strongly preferred.
    • Outstanding written communication skills, including prior experience editing and proofreading documents.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working or collaborating with agriculture private sector companies
    • Strong budget management and financial analysis skills, including proficiency in Excel
    • Proficiency in Kiswahili

    Job Summary:

    TechnoServe seeks a Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Senior Manager for an anticipated local food systems program in Kenya. The Senior Manager will manage the day-to-day monitoring and evaluation (M&E) as well as lead initiatives that foster ongoing Collaboration, Learning & Adaptation (CLA) activities. S/he will be responsible for enabling evidence-based decision-making processes by program leadership, providing the necessary data and information to improve performance and effectiveness as well as inform planning and management decisions. S/he will also be responsible for timely development and progressive implementation of the program’s MEL systems. The Senior Manager will facilitate continuous learning and adaptive management by applying the principles of CLA.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Economics, Statistics, Agriculture or other relevant field.
    • At least 7 years’ professional experience in M&E methods and approaches, including designing, planning, and implementing M&E systems, data analysis and assessment, as well as reporting using a logical framework and other strategic planning approaches. 10 years’ experience for a Bachelor’s degree.
    • Proven track record designing qualitative and quantitative measurement tools.
    • Prior experience implementing CLA into the program cycle.
    • Demonstrated understanding of gender and youth issues in food, agriculture, or market systems.
    • Strong project management skills including the ability to anticipate demand and manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting tight deadlines.
    • Prior work experience in countries in East Africa. Experience working in Kenya strongly preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written presentation skills and good computer skills in business software (Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience using statistical analysis software (Stata or similar).
    • Experience implementing CLA into the program cycle.
    • Previous experience working with USAID
    • Familiarity with the Donor Committee for Enterprise Development (DCED) standards.

    Grants Senior Manager, Kenya Local Food Systems

    Job Summary:

    TechnoServe seeks an experienced Grants Senior Manager for an anticipated food systems development program in Kenya. The Grants Senior Manager will manage the administration of grants and the related procurement processes. S/he will lead the design of a Grants Manual and develop criteria for recipients of grants. S/he will also monitor the performance of sub-awardees and compliance, including conducting monitoring visits. The Senior Manager will provide technical assistance to sub-awardees to support their compliance and optimal performance.

    Basic Qualifications

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Law or other relevant field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
    • At least 7 years’ professional experience in grants or contracts management for a large-scale, complex international development assistance program. 10 years’ experience for Bachelor’s degree. 
    • Proven experience making recommendations on the scope, duration and amount of grants. 
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze grantee reports for compliance and make recommendations to strengthen performance.
    • Knowledge of USAID grant regulations would be beneficial.
    • Strong project management skills including the ability to anticipate demand and manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting tight deadlines.
    • Prior work experience in countries in East Africa. Experience working in Kenya strongly preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written presentation skills and good computer skills in business software (Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint).

    • Experience in a grant management role for a program using a market systems development approach.
