Roles & Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision,
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Electric buses in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations, statutory requirements and BasiGo policy and procedures.
- Diagnoses and repairs electric bus transmission systems, steering, suspension, shafts, differentials and motors
- Performs brake system performance tests and diagnostics, relines brakes, and replaces valves, switches, hardware, slack adjusters and other foundation brake parts and components.
- Repairs motor and battery cooling system and components including replacing radiators, cooling fan, hydraulic fan drive system components, thermostats, water pumps, belts, hoses and other related cooling system components.
- Diagnoses irregular tire wear patterns and determines cause, repairs tires, including mounting new tires and the rotation of tire positions to maximize the service life of tires.
- Performs minor body work (i.e. repair and replacement of bumpers, panels, doors, hinges, and pneumatics).
- Identifies and reports any additional maintenance and/or repairs found necessary in conducting assigned repairs and maintenance including repairs and maintenance required to be performed by Engineers with a higher qualification level
- Suggest methods, processes, and tools to continuously improve the efficiency and quality of BasiGo’s service.
- Diligently records time spent, parts used and repairs and/or maintenance conducted on appropriate company form(s).
- Commit to working safely based on OSHA and BasiGo standards to avoid personal injuries.
- Maintains a safe, clean, productive and efficient work area including ensuring the work area is in compliance with all relevant guidelines and requirements as well as BasiGo standards.
- Any other reasonable duties as may be assigned
Our ideal candidate would have:
- College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ Automotive Engineering or equivalent
- Hands-on experience in either electrical, mechanical, or other related field service experience; experience with electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
- Strong technical capabilities
- Able to work flexible hours (day and night shift)
- Strong team player who is ready to collaborate and achieve the best result for the team!
Skills and attitude
- Enterprising, self-starter who is adaptable to the changing needs of a start-up business.
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent, and able to operate independently with limited supervision

About the Role
Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision,
- Generate work orders for upcoming scheduled maintenance.
- Manage bus incident entries and assign corresponding work orders to individuals
- Make sure work orders are completed within stipulated time with all parts and labor correctly documented.
- Work closely with the service team to ensure there is adequate tooling, equipment and necessary service support items such as lights, PPE, and consumables
- Keep track of Bus odometer readings vs scheduled service and planning the order for the scheduled service.
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator in setting a scheduled maintenance roster for E-buses and implementing the roster in a smooth manner.
- Create complete and accurate invoices to clients for billable service based completed work orders.
- Initiate and manage warranty claims with BasiGo suppliers
- Ensure quality service and maintenance standards are consistently met and documented.
- Ensure Work Orders for all planned and unplanned service are kept up to date throughout the process.
- Work with Service, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to manage any vehicle recall and refurbishment processes.
- Support the service team in customer communications regarding service and maintenance.
- Work with BasiGo finance team to clarify service cost tracking, warranty claims, and invoicing.
- Establishing procedures for documenting all completed tasks, deferred defects.
- Ensure Tools, Equipment and machinery are inspected, calibrated, serviced and replaced according to required schedules.
- Assess E-bus service and Maintenance procedures and making recommendations for improvement.
- Act as a liaison between Service, Stores, Operations, and Finance Departments
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in automotive service or fleet operations
- Good academic record with strong foundation in computer skills
- Demonstrable technical skills working easily with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other online collaboration tools.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and systems
- Knowledge of basic vehicle systems and parts is a must
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with good command of spoken English and Kiswahili. Technical language is a must
- Ability to quickly and accurately clean and analyze data in spreadsheets.
- Proactive coordination and multi tasking skills.
- .Able to work flexible hours as the role will require some amount of night shift work.
- Strong team player who is ready to collaborate and achieve the best result for the team!
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Enterprising, self-starter who is adaptable to the changing dynamics of a start-up business within E-mobility.
- Experience in basic finance and accounting is an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience in either electrical, mechanical, or other related field service experience;
- Humility / Flexibility. This is an early stage start-up company with a fast-paced environment. Job duties may evolve quickly.
- Must have good Technical work tracking and recording skills.
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent, and able to operate independently with limited supervision (completing assigned work accurately and in a timely manner.
