    Access to Finance Director

    Department: Agriculture & Enterprise

    Reports to: Chief of Party

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Build capacity of market system actors, including pastoralists, processors and service providers to develop bankable business plans and access short, medium, and long-term financing.
    • Work with financial institutions to develop and roll-out appropriate saving and lending products, and strengthen their capacity to assess agriculture credit risk related to the livestock sector.
    • Identify opportunities for m-banking and other ICT-based solutions to improve accessibility of financial services.
    • Identify bank and non-bank finance solutions and products for each level of the livestock market system including: service provision, production, processing and marketing.
    • Expand access to risk mitigation products, such as livestock insurance.
    • Strengthen community social safety nets through expansion of saving and lending group models.

    Qualifications & Background:

    Education:

    • Advanced degree in degree in finance, business, or a related field

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in the financial services sector, including at least 5 years of experience in agriculture, and preferably livestock lending.
    • Proven track-record in rolling out new and innovative rural financing products, including supply chain finance instruments.
    • Experience with both formal and informal finance mechanisms including savings groups.
    • Track record in designing and rolling out training programs targeted as the market systems actors ranging from pastoralists to SMEs.
    • Demonstrated understanding of the economic, social, and cultural dynamics of pastoralist production systems in Northern Kenya.
    • Demonstrated networks and trust relations within the Kenyan finance community.

    Skills & Knowledge:

    • Demonstrated strong writing and oral presentation skills in English and Swahili
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
    • Strong team player
    • Ability to maintain the highest ethical standards at all times
