Position summary

To implement public health and environmental laws and regulations through proper sanitation, vector and vermin control, food and water safety, hygiene, solid and liquid waste management including disposal of hazardous waste, drinking water, quality; surveillance of environmental pollutants; prevention and control of disease outbreaks and hygiene education. 

Public Health Officer Job Responsibilities

• Provide advice on proper cleaning procedures and cleaning materials
• Ensure sanitary inspections are carried
• Ensure safety and quality of food and water by conducting regular food and water inspections in consultation
• with the relevant departments and Senior
  Conduct regular sanitary inspections of hospital facilities and recommend appropriate chemicals and rodenticide to be used
• Ensure proper use of color coded dustbins, storage, transportation and disposal waste
• Ensure segregation of waste is done and incineration is carried out
• Ensure drains, manholes, soak pit/septic tanks are dislodged and maintained in a clear state

Qualifications for the Public Health Officer Job

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health Sciences
• Familiarity with the necessary provisions of the Public Health Act Cap 242 and Food, Drugs and other
• Chemical Substances Cap 254 and other regulation in force
• Registered by the Public Health Officers Association
• At least 2 years’ experience Machines, tools, and equipment
• Standard fumigation application equipment
• PC and PC applications and other general office equipment
