Over the past seven years, we have published thousands of job adverts for employers in Kenya. To support job seekers, policymakers, and consultants in further understanding Kenya's job market, we analysed the jobs we published in the two years (2022 - 2023) and presented vital insights in this piece.
This piece looks at the in-demand qualifications, job roles and fields, and the state of remote jobs in Kenya. These findings shed light on the dynamics of Kenya's job market.
We analysed all the jobs published on MyJobMag Kenya in 2022 and 2023. 26,423 jobs were posted in 2022 from 2,137 companies. 2023 saw a 23.7% increase in the number of jobs posted, representing 32,680 jobs from 2,115 companies.
Most of the jobs posted online are degree-level jobs, with 65.59% requiring a Bachelor's or Higher Diploma in 2023. This figure represents a reduction compared to the 69.66% of jobs requiring a Bachelor's or Higher Diploma in 2022.
The percentage of jobs requiring a Masters degree remained constant at 14%.
2023 saw an increase in jobs requiring only a diploma from 11.09% to 13.13%
This shift underscores the growing importance of practical expertise in addition to traditional academic achievements.

There is a rise in internship opportunities in 2023. This may be more companies adopting the catch-them-young approach to filling roles.
2023 saw a reduction in remote jobs, with more companies returning to the office and adopting a hybrid work mode. There is a 19.28% drop in the volume of remote jobs and a 34.6% relative drop, given the total job volume in 2023.

Not surprisingly, 80.95% of the jobs published online in 2023 are from Nairobi. Mombasa follows Nairobi at a distance, representing 1.64% of jobs published online on our website in 2023. This wide margin represents an opportunity to capture other job opportunities, mainly blue-collar opportunities, using other communication channels in other provinces in Kenya.
Non-governmental organisations, government institutions, and banking and financial institutions are the top hirers in 2023. Other industries include ICT and Telecom, Education and Healthcare. These industries represent 79% of the jobs published online in Kenya, with NGOs leading with 20.29%.
