  • In its pilot phase in 2001, CDTD was known as Domestic Support Services, and initially served 5 girls from Kibera. Sensitive to the needs of Kenyan women, Ms. Murogo soon expanded her program and officially registered the Centre as an NGO in 2003. Since its registration, she has adopted numerous programs in order to best assist the disadvantaged. While the Domestic Workers program remains the focal point of the program, CDTD now houses a Literacy Program, Continued Education Program, Rescue and Rehabilitation Program, and Refugee Rehabilitation Program. In total, CDTD’s size has multiplied 600 times since its birth in 2001.More than 10,000 individuals have been transformed through CDTD's work.     Child and Youth Care Worker

    • We are seeking a mature and compassionate residential Care Workers (aged 35 years and above) to provide daily care, emotional support, and supervision to residents in our shelter. The position operates on a three-week live-in rotational shift system.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and support residents’ daily routines and wellbeing.
    • Enforce house rules and provide emotional guidance to residents.
    • Report incidents or safeguarding concerns to the Shelter Manager.
    • Keep daily records of shelter activities and resident welfare.
    • Ensure food storage, preparation and related areas are well-maintained in proper sanitary conditions.
    • Overseeing the girls at the shelter and ensuring their adherence to the house’s regulations.
    • Ensuring proper maintenance of the shelter amenities, attending to house work related duties and monitor the use of materials and other supplies economically.
    • Sleeping at the shelter and ensuring the girls safety and security.
    • Offer required assistance to the residents when needed e.g. attending medical clinics, hospitals etc. on request.
    • Assisting the in budget preparation through identification of shelter needs and priorities.
    • Promote peaceful co-existence among shelter residents and with other staff.
    • Enforcing code of conduct of the girls and ensure all reported incidents are dealt with according to the laid down rules and regulations.
    • Personally prepare and cook food while on duty as per the daily menu.
    • Participate in the development of the kitchen staff duty rota.
    • Noting and reporting food items surpluses or shortages.
    • Maintaining proper food handling procedures at all times.
    • Maintaining kitchen sanitation and safety by cleaning all relevant areas.
    • Ensuring prompt disposal of all refuse using proper disposal methods.
    • Ensuring residents are treated equally, with respect, dignity and without favour
    • Ensuring residents receive the required food portions.
    • Any other duties assigned from time to time

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education: Minimum KCSE certificate, a certificate or diploma in social work, community development, hospitality, care giving, or home management is an added advantage
    • Experience: At least 3–5 years of experience in a similar residential or care giving role such as a shelter, children’s home, or boarding facility.
    • Proven ability in cooking, cleaning, and managing household activities.
    • Experience working with vulnerable women, girls, or children is highly desirable.
    • Skills and Competencies: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to prepare nutritious meals;
    • good organizational skills; knowledge of safeguarding and protection principles; and basic first aid knowledge.
    • Must uphold confidentiality, empathy, and professional boundaries.
    • Safeguarding: Understanding of safeguarding and protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) principles.
    • Must pass a background check and provide character referees.
    • Commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity, and welfare of all residents and willingness to undertake regular safeguarding training.
    • Personal Attributes: Mature (preferably 35 years and above), trustworthy, responsible, and compassionate.
    • Physically fit, flexible, and willing to work on a live-in basis, including weekends and holidays when required.
