    Principal Lecturer

    REF: NO. WRTI/7/2022

    Duties and responsibilities 
    The duties and responsibilities will include: 

    • Initiating institutional policies for the development of new academic programs, curriculum development and review;
    • Initiate policies on examination, student discipline, and general student welfare;
    • Preparing lecture materials and practical;
    • Providing oversight over the examination process including preparation of examination drafts, moderation, administration, marking and externalization;
    • Ensuring appropriate budgets are prepared to facilitate the delivery of training programmes;
    • Coordinating the Implementation of curriculum as per the institutional schedules;
    • Coordinating the Supervision of student research projects and field attachment programs;
    • Undertaking research, consultancy services and curriculum development;
    • Preparing academic budgets, work plans and report writing;
    • Coordinating the execution of field training programmes;
    • Conducting capacity building surveys;
    • Appraising academic staff in the training division;
    • Coordinating the recording and maintenance of the student’s database including class attendance, continuous assessment tests and examination; and
    • Coordinating the analysis of lecturer evaluations and providing feedback;13 | P a g e
    • Coordinating the data collection process for lecturer evaluation by administration of lecturer evaluation forms; and
    • Performing any other responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by the Institute’s Board or management. ​​​​​​​

    Qualifications and experience 
    For appointment to this grade, an applicant must have:

    • At least ten (10) years’ relevant work experience three (3) of which should have been at management level;
    • Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following: Wildlife Conservation/Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental sciences, Hydrobiology, Limnology, Applied Biology, Marine Sciences, Fisheries Biology, Aquaculture Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Arts languages (French, Japanese), or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
    • Master’s Degree in any of the following: Wildlife Conservation/Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental sciences, Hydrobiology, Limnology, Applied Biology, Marine Sciences, Fisheries Biology, Aquaculture Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Arts languages (French, Japanese) , or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
    • PhD in any of the following: Wildlife Conservation/Biology, Biological Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Environmental sciences, Hydrobiology, Limnology, Applied Biology, Marine Sciences, Fisheries Biology, Aquaculture Management, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Bachelor of Arts languages (French, Japanese), or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
    • Certificate course in technical instructors training or equivalent from a recognized institution;
    • Published at least four (4) scientific publications in peer reviewed journal or book chapters; 
    • Certificate course in technical instructors training or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Membership to relevant professional body in good standing where applicable;
    • Certificate in Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
    • Proficiency in computer applications;
    • Demonstrated professional competence and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results; and
    • Fulfilled requirements of chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
