    Engineer - VAS Products

    Job description

    We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the VAS Product Development and Solutions department within the Technology Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

    Reporting to the Manager - VAS Product Development, VAS Solutions, the position holder shall develop and integrate VAS Products & Services offered to Safaricom customers with the goal of delivering high quality solutions within approved schedules. VAS Products & Services comprise of all Value Added Services which include, but not limited to, Messaging, USSD, Content delivery, Voice (RBT, IVR & Media exchange), Video, Device management and IOT solutions.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Development, configuration and integration of all VAS solutions/systems in line with the Digital IT strategy execution plan. Actively participate in defining strategy, roadmaps and architecture design for the VAS products.
    • Embrace the new ways of working in VAS domain with the goal of ensuring 50% of VAS projects are delivered through agile methodology.
    • Timely delivery of projects assigned with the goal of ensuring high quality standards are met and solutions are operationally viable. Responsible for ensuring First Time Right delivery of all solutions developed.
    • Enhance processes and DevOps to improve delivery and increase efficiency by focusing on continuous improvement.
    • Accurately document products & services developed & delivered ensuring they follow DevOps Cycle.
    • Embrace a DevOps culture by ensuring all developed products and Services are gracefully handed to operations for support.
    • Develop and continuously update a knowledge base of best practice for VAS products and Service development.
    • Collaborate with both Technical and Business teams to ensure seamless deployment of products.

    Job Requirements

    • BSc. Degree in Telecommunication Engineering/Electrical & Electronics engineering/Computer Science/IT.
    • 2 years’ experience in a busy telecommunication/ IT environment or Software Engineering with good knowledge in development for VAS solutions including Messaging, Voice, Video & IOT.
    • Software Engineering methodologies including Agile-oriented development.
    • Proficiency in networking protocols – TCP/IP, DNS and load balancing.
    • Working knowledge in Unix systems and Databases – Oracle, MySQL.
    • Working knowledge of security encryption solutions – SSL, firewalls, VPN, IPsec
    • Strong experience in programming/scripting language(s) – Python, Perl , Shell or equivalent.
    • 3rd Party RESTful API integration, PHP, MySQL, SQL server, web service working knowledge preferred.

    Big Data Engineer

    Description

    We are pleased to announce the following Contract opportunity in the Big Data and Business Analytics Department within the Strategy and Innovation Division. In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for persons who meets the criteria indicated below.


    Reporting to the HOD - Big Data and Business Analytics, the position holder will design, build and deliver on the big data platform which will serve as Safaricom’s single source of truth. The platform will be used to continuously deliver on Safaricom’s overall data analytics strategy. Safaricom is investing heavily in big data and this will be a truly exciting role in view of the organizations unique data set and position in this region.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design, architect and build solutions and tools for the big data platform
    • Mediate and coordinate resolution of software project deliverables using agile methodology
    • Develop pipelines to ingest data into the big data platform based on business demands and use cases
    • Develop analytical platforms that will be used to avail data to end users for exploration, advanced analytics and visualizations for day to day business reporting
    • Provide guidance and advise to technology teams on the best use of latest technologies and designs to deliver a best in class platform in the most cost effective way
    • Develop automated monitoring solutions to be handed over to support teams to run and operate the platform efficiently
    • Automate and productionize data science models on the big data engineering platform

    Qualifications

    • BS or MS in computer science or equivalent practical experience
    • At least 2-3 years of coding experience in a non-university setting.
    • Experience in Object Oriented development
    • Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles
    • Experience in collecting, storing, processing and analyzing large volumes of data.
    • Experience with building stream-processing systems, using solutions such as Storm or Spark-Streaming
    • Experience with various messaging systems, such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
    • Experience with NoSQL databases, such as HBase, Cassandra, MongoDB
    • Understanding of big data technologies: Cloudera/MapR/Hortonworks

    Principal Officer-Category Sourcing

    Description

    • Provide support in Category sourcing strategy development, supply base rationalization and implementation.
    • Perform / support contract analysis and risk evaluation; Cost reduction; build-up, discovery, Total cost of ownership, design to cost, and pricing analysis, target price evaluation/negotiation.
    • Negotiate and facilitate implementation of long term agreements and / or partnerships within Category.
    • Maintain knowledge database of supplier’s markets, sub-categories, capabilities, technology, cost analysis and key performance indicators.
    • Develop and fully implement long term supply agreements for key strategic high value items and services within Category.
    • Develop, Implement and Maintain procurement Plans for allocated Category
    • Develop and fully implement supplier catalogues/pricelists within the ERP system.
    • Ensure harmonization of prices of goods and services procured by the company from various suppliers at different times.
    • Develop and implement cost optimization targets in liaison with budget holders and suppliers.
    • Monitor supplier performance to ensure delivery of quality goods & services as per contract/Purchase Order.
    • Enforce supplier Payment Terms that are , favorable to Safaricom and in line with company Strategy.
    • Develop Purchasing SLA with all Internal & External stakeholder, and integrate with daily activities of Stakeholders and act as a business partner for Supply chain.
    • Manage all tender documentations/processes and adherence to policies and procedures.
    • Ensure contract renewal/tendering processes is started at least 2 months before expiry of the existing one, but at all times within an appropriate time frame.
    • Achieve 100% CIPS Certification within set timeline.

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Technology, Engineering, Business or similar qualification
    • At least 5 years’ experience in network support, planning, optimization and support with experience in 2,3 and 4G technologies. Willingness to quickly learn sourcing strategy development, tender documentation and tendering process, tender analysis and procurement performance management, while leveraging ERP capabilities for procurement-related functions and processes.
    • Diploma in CIPS alongside above qualification will be added advantage.
