    Foodscape Project Director

    Specific Roles and Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop a strategic and action-oriented work-plan to meet the goals of the CHEF program in consultation with key internal and external partners and lead its successful implementation.
    • Supervise and coach CHEF staff and consultants and oversee/ensure integration of all the technical work.
    • Serve as primary contact for the program, ensuring strong TNC internal coordination with other relevant programs and offices.
    • Apply critical systems thinking to CHEF strategic functioning and obtain any required approvals at key decision points.
    • Provide financial management oversight, analyze budgets, and provide updates to the BU on budget expenditures.
    • Establish, lead the development of key partnerships, and manage required connections with key stakeholders.
    • Lead the CHEF (partner) secretariat to define and implement common strategies, plans, and joint operational models.
    • Support donor engagement and fundraising efforts and seek opportunities to collaborate with other relevant programs being implemented in the region.
    • Responsible for timely delivery of required plans, monitoring of activities, and evaluation of the program performance.
    • Responsible for risk management, issue resolution, conflict management and collaborative complex problems solving.
    • Clearly, regularly, and timely communicates the progress of CHEF initiatives to internal and external stakeholders, including triannual program reporting and review.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING

    • BA/BS degree in an agricultural or related field and minimum 7 years’ experience in agriculture, conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience in critical systems thinking at the agriculture-conservation nexus.
    • Experience writing and editing skills for scientific documents such as grant proposals, and technical reports.
    • Experience with strategic partnership management skills for maximising the success of the complex agriculture-conservation program.
    • Experience leading complex programs; building strong team spirit and supervision of multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Experience with financial management of a large program.
    • Experience with technical expertise in one or more the following technical areas: land health, water management, biodiversity, climate mitigation, and livelihoods and community development.
    • Experience with ffundraising and/or donor relations, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.
    • Experience in living and working in remote field sites often with limited amenities.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s degree in an agricultural or related field such as business management, rural development, and 10 years of experience in agriculture-conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Strong experience in partnership management/development with major scientific organisations, non-profit partners, and proven track record in influencing and working productively with these stakeholders.
    • Strong English language communications skills, including ability to communicating clearly via written, oral, and graphical forms, and ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
    • Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
    • Experience developing practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
    • Experience and knowledge of methods and approaches to conceiving and implementing strategic and transdisciplinary initiatives.

    Finance & Accounting Manager, Africa

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for managing, maintaining, and reporting financial data, monitoring management controls and processes, and ensuring compliance with TNC policies and procedures, relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and financial management best practices.
    • Point person for accounting and the BU advisor on revenue and expense coding to ensure continuous update of financial information on shared sites for Finance Operations related matters and smooth running of financial operations and programmatic support to the BU.
    • Responsible for oversight of financial compliance matters including supervision of external, internal, donor and revenue authority audits to ensure accuracy and timeliness of audits, effective implementation of corrective action plans and submission of statutory reports within timelines as required by local laws.
    • Promote a complete audit trail culture in the support documentation of all financial transactions.
    • Collaborate with compliance officer and finance leadership on implementing and strengthening internal control systems and continuous process performance improvement. Ensure liaison with regions accounting vendors, Operations Administrators and Finance Specialists on tax & regulatory compliance and routine certifications.
    • As required, travel to high-risk country contexts (for example emergency response, new office or new program start up, staff turnover) to provide temporary direct management support and compliance oversight across finance functions.
    • Manage the finance accounting diary to ensure financial activities are met within set deadlines, including the year-end close process, the development of year-end projections of expense, periodic analysis of balance sheet accounts, and making necessary adjustments to ensure adherence to TNC requirements on reporting and accuracy of the BU reports.
    • Ensure revenue is coded, and financial reports reflect donor intent, working with the development team to perform revenue allocation and ensure costs are charged accurately to respective funding sources.
    • Ensure adequate checks and controls for financial processes are in place, ensure their compliance, implement, and manage new initiatives to strengthen financial processes, identify areas of improvement, and develop action plans.
    • Participate in designing, implementing, and reinforcing finance policies, procedures, and systems to comply with all applicable financial and accounting regulations. 
    • Review and monitor Income Statement and Balance Sheet items monthly and at year-end close to ensure adherence to TNC requirements, reporting and accuracy of the BU reports.
    • Support preparation/consolidation of financial statements, including detailed trial balance accounts with underlying support documentation in preparation for periodic audits.
    • Enforce implementation of a proper electronic filing system of financial documentation and supporting records, ensuring financial compliance as required by state agencies, internal auditor/external auditors, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Key resource to BU staff in addressing queries related to accounting, tax and general financial management and operations treatment across the BU and world office.  
    • Provide operational support, including onboarding new staff, and facilitate the opening and closing of new country operations by providing financial guidance and assistance.
    • May manage or participate in complex negotiations with external parties.
    • Participate in implementing finance initiatives rolled out to international BUs, on ERPs and accounting processes.
    • Supervise Finance Specialist and Finance Compliance officer, with responsibility for training, professional development, and performance management.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
    • Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
    • Experience in audit and tax matters with focus on Africa region.
    • Experience with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting principles, practices, and regulations, including government grants accounting and reporting.
    • Experience recruiting, supervising, and managing performance for remote teams.
    • Experience in developing, managing, and implementing multiple projects.
    • Experience managing a large finance department in not-for-profit organizations.
    • Experience working in complex contexts and dealing with complex situations.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Over 8 years’ managerial experience in large international organizations.
    • CPA (K) or ACCA qualification
    • Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable laws and regulations, and the best finance/accounting/management practices.
    • Experience accounting, analyzing, and interpreting data and regulatory frameworks, reporting, and implementing solutions.
    • Familiarization in managing and monitoring annual budgeting process and monitoring respective individual budgets.
    • Knowledge of GAAP and/or relevant regulatory framework with experience in complex accounting/financial frameworks
    • Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls, interpreting guidelines, and analyzing information to adapt or modify processes as needed.
    • Ability to resolve complex issues independently within the program area.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and build relationships with diverse departments, collaborators, and field staff.
    • Advanced in MS Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Power BI, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
    • Ability to model and synthesize complex financial information and operating and KPI data into appealing presentations (to a nonfinancial audience) to facilitate understanding of operational results and drive performance improvement decisions.
    • Service oriented, courteous, personable, tactful, and experienced in dealing effectively with all levels of staff.
    • Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
    • Technical expertise on handling complex accounting/financial issues.
