    Project Coordinator

    KMR/ 5 Vacancy No. FN031072021

    Reports to: Co Principle Investigator 

    Duration: A renewable one year contract, as per KEMRI scheme of service. The first three months being probation period.

    Qualifications:

    1.  A Master’s Degree in a healthrelated field with qualifications in public health or a related discipline preferred
    2.  Bachelor of Science or an equivalent Degree in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health or relevant field
    3.  Experience with communitybased research for public health or clinical studies preferred
    4.  Knowledge on TB/COVID19 epidemiology will be an added advantage
    5.  Prior leadership experience managing research teams preferred

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1.  Provide management oversight to the project and ensure it is in line with the approved protocol and work plan;
    2.  Coordinate implementation of all components of the study protocol at the site level.
    3.  Provide technical support for all study components.
    4.  Ensure compliance to protocol and procedures for all study components.
    5.  Oversee participant recruitment, followups and communications.
    6.  Maintain all documents related to participant recruitment and consent, data collection and management.
    7.  Oversee collection and management of data for all study components by research staff.
    8.  Assist with administrative needs of research study, including procurement of supplies.
    9.  Establish and monitor study plans, schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditures.
    10.  Document and follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings.
    11.  Assist in training, supervision and mentorship of the Kenyabased research staff .
    12.  Represent the TBCOVID project management and build strong crossfunctional relationships with government authorities and other partners.
    13.  Communicate on a regular basis with the project team on the progress of the overall project and related issues.
    14.  Organize and participate in study meetings (inperson, internet conference calls).
    15.  Assist with dissemination of study findings.
    16.  Act as liaison between investigators, participants and staff.

    Other required skills:

    Research Assistants

    Reports to: Project Coordinator

    1.  Diploma in Nursing, Public Health, Sociology, Community Health & Development; Social Work, Counseling or any other relevant health/social sciences required. Bachelor’s Degree qualification in the related field preferred.

    3.  Experience with research studies or programs on TB/COVID-19 will be an added advantage.
    4.  Training and experience in conducting quantitative surveys preferred.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1.  Implement all components of the study protocol at the site level.
    2.  Ensure compliance to protocol and procedures for all study components.
    3.  Explaining the study to and recruiting eligible participants for the study.
    4.  Administering informed consent and enrolling eligible participants .
    5.  Administering baseline assessments surveys for participants recruited into the study.
    6.  Assist in sample collection for SARS-CoV-2 screening.
    7.  Regularly monitoring participants progress as per the study protocol.
    8.  Conduct routine follow up visits and assessments of the participants during the study period.
    9.  Conduct contact tracing for close contacts of all TB and COVID-19 cases confirmed.
    10.  Ensure completeness of all data collected.
    11.  Participate in study meetings (in-person, internet conference calls).
    12.  Assist with dissemination of study findings.
    13.  May perform other project related duties as requested or required.

    Other required skills:

    Laboratory Analyst

    Vacancy No: CGHR/203/07/21

    PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in collaboration with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a mandate to conduct research in Malaria, HIV and other diseases. The Attractive Targeted Sugar Bait (ATSB) project will be conducting a large communitybased study aimed at reducing malaria burden in western Kenya. The 3year project is part of a larger international ATSB consortium involving three countries. The project has the following vacant position:

    Location: Kisian lab and Asembo Field Lab.

    Reports to: Study Coordinator.

    Requirements:

    1. Diploma in any of the following fields: Medical Laboratory Sciences, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

    OR

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields; Medical Laboratory Sciences Laboratory Sciences, Analytical/Applied, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Sciences/Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science and Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology or Biotechnology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

    Job Description

    The Research Assistant will report to the Study Coordinator and will be responsible for conducting  Laboratory assays, morphological and molecular identification of mosquito samples and maintenance  of study supplies inventories.

    Tasks and Responsibilities

    The responsibilities shall include:

    •  Plan and work with Community study staff to conduct laboratory and field studies.
    •  Conduct molecular assays specifically PCR and ELISAs.
    •  Conduct colorimetric assays such as the Anthone test.
    •  Conduct resistance testing of selected insecticides using a range of methods for topical and systemic insecticides.
    •  Maintain study supplies inventories.
    •  Be courteous, respectful, proactive, conscientious, punctual, honest and hardworking.

    Terms of Employment:

    Six (6) months contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Salary is negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.

    Assistant Laboratory Technologist

    J/G KMR 8 (3 Position)

    Reports to: Study Coordinator

    This is the entry and training grade for diploma holders in this cadre. An officer at this grade will work under the supervision and guidance of a Senior Officer.

    Job Specifications

    The duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

    1. Receiving/collecting, recording of specimens according to applicable protocol SOP;
    2. Preparing reagents
    3. Processing and analyses of specimen;
    4. Recording and reporting of results in a specified format;
    5. Dispatching the results for clinical/Research management;
    6. Routine and daily maintenance of laboratory equipment;
    7. Ensuring adherence to bio safety and bio security guidelines;
    8. Taking part in preparation of Standards Operations Procedures (SOPs)

    Person Specification

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:–

    1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    2. Registration Certificate issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) or any other recognized regulatory body;
    3. Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists
    4. Proficiency in computer application;
    5. Certificate in GCP/GCLP
    6. Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
