    Guidance Counsellor & Psychology Teacher

    Role Summary

    • As a Guidance Counsellor & Psychology Teacher, you will play a crucial role in fostering students' emotional well-being, critical thinking, and academic success. By delivering the IB curriculum, you will create an engaging learning environment while providing guidance and support to students, staff, and parents.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Teach IBDP Psychology using innovative and student-centred approaches.
    • Identify students at risk and develop and implement strategies to assist students in managing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, ensuring a positive and inclusive school environment.
    • Foster positive student-teacher relationships and provide conflict resolution strategies.
    • Share information with faculty, within the bounds of confidentiality, to ensure students are effectively supported.
    • Take a specialist role and act as a resource person in the development of pastoral care programs.
    • Support teachers in addressing students’ individual needs, including behavioural and academic challenges.
    • Use data-driven insights to track student progress and measure the efficacy of interventions.
    • Facilitate communication between parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other relevant stakeholders on student well-being.
    • Contribute to school programs, events and community engagement initiatives.

    The requirements

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Education, or equivalent.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching, career, or guidance counselling.
    • TSC registration.
    • Experience/ability to teach Psychology and providing student support through guidance counselling.
    • Experience delivering the IB curriculum and expanding course offerings is desirable.
    • Registration as a counsellor or psychologist in Kenya is preferred.
    • Proficiency in using technology to enhance learning.
    • Commitment to student welfare, safeguarding and pastoral care.
    • A strong work ethic.
    • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
    • Excellent organisational skills.
    • Positive attitude and creative approach in confronting challenges.

    Guidance Counsellor

    Role Summary:

    • As a Guidance Counsellor, you will provide advice and resources to students regarding personal and academic situations. You will meet with prospective parents and their children, addressing questions about the student's social and emotional well-being at school. The Guidance Counsellor will also provide the necessary counselling and follow-up support.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Identify students at risk and develop and implement strategies to assist students in managing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, ensuring a positive and inclusive school environment.
    • Provide both individual and group counselling based on the needs of students, addressing social, emotional, behavioural and academic challenges.
    • Work closely with teachers to develop and implement strategies that enable students with learning difficulties to fully access the curriculum.
    • Provide opportunities to resolve issues in student-teacher relationships.
    • Share information with faculty, within the bounds of confidentiality, to ensure students are effectively supported.
    • Take a specialist role and act as a resource person in the development of pastoral care programs.
    • Assist with the review and implementation of the school’s guidance policies.
    • Access support from a variety of external agencies and social services.
    • Help teachers develop strategies to meet the individual needs of students, including listening and interviewing skills, conflict resolution, etc.
    • Collect and analyse data and share results with the school community.
    • Facilitate communication between parents, teachers, administrators, and students about behaviour and academic problems.
    • Assist with school programs and events.
    • Develop and Implement Mental Health Programs by designing and facilitating workshops, training sessions and awareness campaigns on mental health, resilience, and well-being for students, teachers, and parents.

    The requirements

    University and Careers Counsellor

    Role Summary

    • The University and Careers Counsellor supports Senior School students (aged 11-18) in their transition from school to university by implementing a comprehensive counselling program. This includes guiding students and families through university applications, financial aid and scholarships, career planning, and higher education selection.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Advise students and parents/guardians on university admissions, scholarships and financial aid.
    • Support students in preparing applications, writing recommendations and coordinating standardised tests (SAT, ACT, IELTS).
    • Organise university visits, career events and college forums to ensure students can make informed choices.
    • Build relationships with university representatives and admissions officers.
    • Utilise Maia Learning for student tracking, career planning and university applications.
    • Maintain accurate student records, transcripts and application materials.
    • Administer and oversee testing e.g. SAT at the school.
    • Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to integrate career education into the curriculum.
    • Take charge of planning and organising career events and university fairs.
    • Oversee work experience programs and guide students in career exploration.
    • Conduct workshops and training sessions for students on essential career skills, including resume writing, interview techniques, personal branding, and professional networking.
    • Continuously research and update knowledge on university admission trends, program requirements and emerging career opportunities to provide accurate and timely guidance.

    The requirements

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent required.
    • IB Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme experience.
    • Experience in either college admissions or high school counselling, prior experience with diverse student populations.
    • Experience planning curriculum and teaching strongly preferred.
    • A strong work ethic.
    • Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
    • Excellent organisational skills.
    • IT knowledge.
    • Positive attitude and creative approach in confronting challenges.
