    Fintech Project Manager

    About the Opportunity

    The Fintech Project Manager will be a new position for Inkomoko as we scale our lending and financial inclusion products across East Africa, and seek new internal finance systems digitization.  

    Current projects in the IT Roadmap include automating payroll, digital cash management,, accounting software upgrade, mobile loan app development, building AI modules for automated due diligence on lending, migration to a Core Banking Solution, establishing a digital payment gateway, and API integrations with our banking/telecom/investment partners.  

    Responsibilities

    The IT Project Manager will be technical enough to manage a range of IT projects, but as a project manager won’t do the development themselves.  Specifically, the role will include:

    User Requirements and Project Inception

    • Detect gaps that can be closed by fintech projects, develop user requirements and collaborate with co-workers, and identify solutions that are fit for the user and purpose
    • Leverage newer technologies (machine learning, AI, etc) to be forward-looking in our approaches to solving challenges
    • Direct and manage technology project development from inception to end rollout.
    • Define project scope, goals, success criteria, and deliverables 
    • Draft and complete detailed Business Requirements and Statement of Work (SOW) with the project sponsors
    • Develop a full-scale project plan, including budgets, timelines, milestones, and allocating human resources (select and manage vendors and on-staff developers) to implement projects using Agile methodologies
    • Work with other team members to prioritize projects in the IT Roadmap
    • Develop/modify and implement processes and systems to add value to Inkomoko’s lending strategy as we enter new geographies, and work with the investment team to configure new investment products 
    • Continual improvement of client-facing services through maintaining knowledge of tech solutions and proposing options that are appropriate for rural, low-bandwidth clients

    Project Management

    • Once a project is approved, track project milestones and deliverables, and develop/deliver 
    • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate staff and consultants
    • Coordinate with the IT Project Manager, Developers, and UI/UX team for design and coding
    • Ongoing troubleshooting problem areas, raising challenges 
    • Manage sprints and serve as scrum master for approved projects
    • Coordinate with the QA Analyst for ensuring usability and value to users
    • Use Asana and Jira to document and record project status
    • Proactively and effectively communicate to project sponsors
    • Establish roll-out and adoption plans, including developing training materials, user guides
    • Conduct project post mortems and create a recommendations report 

    Minimum Qualifications

    The position requires a broad technical background in project/program management and in building and managing multiple complex projects and customer relationships. 

    • 5 years of fintech project management in Africa, with bachelor’s degree preferred 
    • Scrumaster experience - has run complicated tech projects, on-time and within budget from start to finish, ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
    • Coding language preferred, but not required.  Must have a working understanding of languages in our stack: Python, XML, Javascript, Postgresql
    • Experience with Human-Centered Design and UI/UX 
    • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects (5-10 projects at a time)
    • Exceptional oral and written communication in English, plus one East African language
    • Familiarity with CRM/ERP systems is required, and Odoo and Mifos are highly desirable.
    • Experience managing vendor service level agreements and securing vendor deliverables.

    Fintech Developer

    About the Opportunity

    This is a new position for Inkomoko, with a great opportunity to leverage technology to improve how we do business. As a member of the IT team, the successful candidate will work closely with the finance and investment teams to help the organization improve the digital experience across  financial operations, management of Inkomoko loan fund, and services to clients.  

    Responsibilities

    Software Development and Customization (65% time)

    • Development or configuration/customization of technology solutions in the areas of internal operational fintech, investment fintech, and client-focused digital solutions
    • Work with IT Project Manager to implement project plans, meet timelines, and budget constraints, and report on the progress of technology development 
    • Upgrades, troubleshooting, testing, and bug fixes 
    • Proactively communicate milestones for development, and identify potential development issues in advance, creating backup plans 
    • API integrations with third-party software into Inkomoko’s various ERP, CRM, and Core Banking systems
    • Coordinate with the QA Analyst for ensuring usability and value to users
    • Use Asana and Jira to record project status and documentation
    • Proactively and effectively communicate to project sponsors

    App Development (15% time)

    • Develop client-facing apps, or add new features for Inkomoko mobile apps  – particularly for users with low-tech literacy, including for usage in refugee camps or in rural settings with low connectivity. 
    • Develop apps for Inkomoko staff to increase their productivity, efficiency, communication, and ability to work remotely

    Technology Supports (20% time)

    • Support and backup other IT colleagues as needed and other duties as assigned
    • Proactively identify development needs and raise those for plans for approval and implementation
    • Troubleshoot for all users, particularly for high-value users like the Finance team, CEO/COO, and Managing Directors.
    • Coordinate with other development and IT colleagues for prioritization along the IT Roadmap

    Minimum Qualifications

    • At least 6 years of software or app development/coding in the digital financial sector
    • Previous experience developing for low-digital literacy clients 
    • Hands-on experience in our stack: Python, XML, Javascript, Postgresql
    • Experience with all phases of the development lifecycle 
    • Previous experience running sprints/Agile development approaches
    • Previous experience with our software platforms preferred (Odoo, Mifos, Bamboo) and customizations to meet user needs
    • Fluent in written and spoken English, plus at least one other East African language

    UI/UX Designer

    About the Opportunity

    This is a new position for Inkomoko, as we are doubling our 7-person IT team in the coming months as we scale into new geographies.  As a member of the IT team, the successful candidate will work closely with the users to ensure that any products that the IT team are easy to use, on-brand, and create a great user experience. 

    Responsibilities

    Design and Functionality for Users (80% time)

    • Identify gaps and challenges in UI/UX and propose improvements for change, working through the development process with end users
    • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with product managers and developers
    • Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps
    • Design graphic user interfaces elements, like menus, tabs, and widgets
    • Build page navigation buttons, search/input fields
    • Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites/apps function and look, present to stakeholders for feedback, and iterate as needed based on feedback and functionality.
    • As we expand into new geographies, conduct user research and product testing with new market segments 
    • Proactively and effectively communicate to project sponsors
    • Work closely with developers to implement the approved designs and approaches
    • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. responsiveness)
    • Coordinate with the QA Analyst for generating insights on any usability issues
    • Adhere to Inkomoko style standards on fonts, colors, and images
    • Use Asana and Jira to record project status and documentation

    Other User Experience Supports (20% time)

    • Serve as the in-house expert in user experience, including supporting other staff to work HCD processes to create better user experiences (even non-tech ones)
    • Coordinate with other colleagues for project prioritization along the IT Roadmap
    • Support and backup other IT colleagues as needed and other duties as assigned
    • Proactively identify development needs and raise those for plans for approval and implementation
    • Troubleshoot for all users, particularly for high-value users like directors

    Minimum Qualifications

    • At least 3 years experience with creating user experiences in digital interfaces
    • Previous experience working with low-digital literacy clients in rural areas in East Africa
    • Coding experience preferred in our stack: Python, XML, Javascript, Postgresql
    • Great communication skills with a variety of people 
    • A champion of HCD with lots of empathy
    • Commitment to fixing the problem, not promoting one solution
    • Graphic design skills and experience building wireframes and storyboards
    • Fluent in written and spoken English, plus at least one other East African language
