    Nurse - Mai Mahiu

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Get reports on general and specific wellbeing of all the children. Visit the dormitories daily to see all children who are there for any health concerns.
    • Liaise with the children’s mums/supervisors and specific children about them individual medical care and follow up.
    • Every Monday, plan and prepare medications for the 8 younger children who are on regular medicines for chronic illnesses. Ensure child’s mum/supervisor confirms the medications are correct for their child.
    • Every day, check on the medication signup sheets to confirm that medicines are given as prescribed to children.
    • Work with the dorm parents and housekeepers to develop a general cleaning schedule for commonly touched surfaces as a preventive measure for communicable diseases.
    • Ensure that all meals and snacks at the organization provide a nutritious, balanced diet for developing children. Maintain a set menu with the catering department, making improvements and changes in the meals as required to give maximum nutritional benefit.
    • Keep a weekly inventory of the infirmary that includes medications and all medical supplies and equipment. Ensure there are sufficient, but not excessive quantities of commonly administered meds/supplies in stock for care needs.
    • Liaise with different local hospitals in order to take children for hospital visits as per appointments and for urgent and emergency care needs.
    • Every 3 months, give all children deworming medicine.
    • Keep up with public health updates in relation to vaccinations, outbreaks of illnesses in our area, and any other health related matters.
    • Regularly conduct scheduled staff and community parent trainings on HIV/AIDS, nutrition, hygiene, common illness prevention and treatment, and any other topics as deemed necessary.
    • Prepare quarterly work plans and budgets as per organizational guidelines.
    • Participate in parenting of the 91 children at the organization.
    • Plan to work with the public health nurse for capacity building within the health sector.
    • Research on and keep up to date on health care emerging issues and them management

    Key Requirements Skills, experience and qualification

    • KRCHN (Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse) or KRN (Kenya Registered Nurse)
    • Valid NCK practicing license
    • 4 years of practice experience

    Driver - Mai Mahiu

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Pick up and drop children and/or staff as per set schedule.
    • Report any vehicle malfunctions or needed repairs, delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations.
    • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks i.e., check the condition of a vehicle's tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water, and safety equipment to ensure that everything is in working order.
    • Comply with traffic regulations in order to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner.
    • Follow safety rules as kids and/or staff are boarding and exiting buses, and as they cross roads near pick up/dropping points.
    • Make note of any behavioral or disciplinary problems among the children.
    • Keep bus exteriors and interiors clean for passengers by cleaning the bus as scheduled and/or required.
    • Ensure the vehicle(s) are safely and securely parked after use.
    • Have good knowledge of first-aid procedures.
    • Maintain order among children and/or staff during trips, in order to ensure safety.
    • Perform minor maintenance duties such as changing the oil.
    • Submit regular reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage and fuel consumption.
    • Be available to take on any other extra duties as assigned by the supervisor to avoid idleness during low peak hours as explained in the employee contract policy. Such duties may or may not fall within the transport department.

    Key Requirements Skills, experience and qualification

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D (Plain) or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
    • Passed the suitability Test for Drivers Grade III from the Ministry of Public works
    • Knowledge of the traffic act and related regulations
    • At least two (2) years previous satisfactory driving experience after obtaining the driving license (Minibus preferably a school driver)
    • Driving license free from any endorsements and valid for class A, B, C, E.
    • A valid one (1) week first Aid Certificate from Kenya Red Cross, Kenya College of Highway and Building Technology or St. John’s Ambulance; and certificate in computer application.
    • Availability to occasionally take weekend and night shifts.
    • PSV badge
    • Basic mechanical skills
    • Good communication fluent in English & Kiswahili (Written & Oral).
    • Certificate of Good conduct (Updated).
    • Good in report writing
    • Should be drug free during working hours
