    Senior Programmes Associate

    THE ROLE

    This position seeks a motivated professional, with good people skills, client management, project management (when required), communications background and will thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial working environment. The ideal SPA understands global public health issues, has at least three to six years of work experience. Candidates with an advanced university degree have an advantage.

    The SPA will support project teams with policy research, communications and advocacy efforts, project management and documentation as well as stakeholder engagement.

    Responsibilities 

    Content Development

    • Conduct primary and secondary, technical and policy research
    • Develop first drafts of project deliverables including concept notes, project reports, presentations, work plans and opinion pieces
    • Write and edit proposals, policy briefs, press releases, fact sheets, strategy documents and other documents as required

    Communications

    • Support advocacy and communications activities for projects, including strategic planning to achieve project objectives
    • Support with conceptualising and executing social media campaigns including developing toolkits, social media plans and outreach to key stakeholders
    • Edit communications materials, liaising with journalists and developing a documented network of media contacts
    • Work closely with project teams for implementation of media and advocacy campaigns
    • Conduct outreach to and liaise with external stakeholders relevant to various projects with guidance from project managers

    Supporting Client/Project Management

    • Support project managers by overseeing, tracking and documenting project deliverables and key indicators for regular evaluation and assessment of projects
    • Develop, manage and maintain critical relationships for projects
    • Own critical deliverables by developing strategies to bring objectives to fruition
    • Communicate regularly with managers on progress and challenges, show initiative to bringing solutions to challenges
    • Manage and mentor program associates and program assistants as required
    • Lead critical components of client calls and meetings
    • Support the project team with executing meetings/events
    • Participate in weekly check-ins and internal planning meetings

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
    • 3-6 years of work experience
    • Post-graduate degree in Journalism, Business Administration, Public Health, Public Policy, Public Administration or related field
    • Journalism, communications, or public relations experience
    • Strong project management, presentation and organisational skills
    • Proven experience in the writing of excellent communication material (e.g., briefings, press releases and key messages)
    • Ability to write compelling stories
    • Microsoft Office proficiency
    • Understanding of public health issues and socio-economic landscape across Africa
    • Ability to work remotely

    VALUABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    • Fluent in French
    • International work experience, preferably on the African continent
    • Campaign experience in global health or development
    • Experience organising conferences and events
    • Master’s degree in a related field 
    • Experience with Adobe Suite of creative tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or Canva

    Associate

    THE ROLE

    The associate will be responsible for proving support for the implementation of key activities under projects in Africa. The associate is expected to fulfil tasks set out by supervisors on East and South Africa based projects and to be reachable and online during working hours, have access to a reliable laptop, cell phone and internet connection.

    Responsibilities 

    Research

    • Conduct desk research for proposals, social media, website and concept notes as required and set out by supervisors
    • Keep abreast of local, regional and international news, these will be useful for research, content generation and referencing
    • Media monitoring for project interest stories and articles

    Meetings and check in calls

    • Attend team check-ins, client calls and any other relevant meetings, assist with creating the agenda, taking down notes and dissemination under the directive of the supervisor
    • Provide administrative and logistical support for calls and meetings

    Writing

    • Social media – assist the project teams with developing social media content by and creating relevant content based on newsworthy articles, website links and social commentary
    • Create copy for posts, design/put together quote cards, short clips and infographics as required
    • Websites and microsites – assist with keeping the sites current
    • GHS documentation – learn through using writing templates, previous proposals, reports and training materials

    Database

    • Assist in the regular updating of databases for clients, media, partners, champions and service providers (company, organisation, contact person, website, address, and relevant)

    The above terms of reference contains the main duties and responsibilities for this role. The Associate may be asked to undertake other tasks that are reasonably allocated to them but which are not part of their regular terms of reference. This will be in consultation with the Associate and line manager.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree (Communications, public relations, or journalism)
    • Fluent profieciency in English (written and spoken)
    • Good command of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Powerpoint and Excel
    • Strong writing skills in English
    • Interest in public health
