    Dean -School of Dentistry (Re-advertisement)

    Duties and Responsibilities 

    • The position of Dean is a Management position within the Academic Division reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics, Research, Extension & Student Affairs) and shall be responsible for:-
    • the academic and administrative leadership and coordination of the School;
    • participating in establishing policies for the University and ensuring that institutional traditions and academic policies of the University support the needs of academic staff and students, and the Universities Vision, Mission, Core Values, Objectives , Strategies and Plans are achieved;
    • ensuring that review, recruitment, appointments and promotions of academic and administrative staff are of the highest quality;
    • ensuring that programmes developed by the School are innovative, teaching and research meet the highest standard set by the University Senate to produce quality students that are globally competitive;
    • ensuring that the University ISO quality manual and procedures are adhered to;
    • ensuring that quality teaching, learning and research take place in the School, supports and promotes features of good practice, staff welfare, personal support and guidance to students, students evaluation of instructor and course, curriculum development and review, regular appraisal and reward of student and staff;
    • uploading programmes to the open and distance learning platform
    • marketing and promotion of University academic programmes;
    • ensuring that issuance of transcripts of academic records is done promptly, determining academic eligibility, certifying enrollment, preparing statistical reports, supporting quality assurance function and maintaining the student academic information database in the School;
    • taking responsibility for all matters pertaining to academic activities of the School, coordinating and formulating proposals with respect to the development and implementation of academic plans of the School;
    • initiating, promoting and enhancing corporate social responsibility, community relations partnership, linkages and collaborations;
    • being in charge of all undergraduate and post graduate teaching programmes of the School i.e. ensuring that the Courses in the relevant Departments approved by Senate are timed tabled, taught, examined and provisional results released after the School Board of Examiners Meeting and fees is collected;
    • Budgetary estimates and administering all financial resources in the School, participating in various Committees of the University, helping in the coordination of School Alumni and maintaining connections; and
    • performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Deputy ViceChancellor (Academics, Research, Extension & Student Affairs) on behalf of the ViceChancellor.

    Qualification Requirements
    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:-

    • be at least a Senior Lecturer in the University;
    • have demonstrated leadership and vision in managing students, staff and the University academic programmes;
    • be a Member of the School of which she/ he is applying to be a Dean;
    • be knowledgeable in ISO procedures and Performance Contract;
    • be knowledgeable in ICT; and
    • be knowledgeable in Financial Management, Budgeting and Public Procurement procedures.

    Note: 
    A Dean shall hold office for a period of three (3) years renewable once for a further period of three (3) years. Any applicant who has served as Dean for two (2) consecutive terms shall not be eligible for reappointment within three (3) years immediately following the lapse of the last appointment.

    Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Research & Innovation (Re-advertisement)

    Duties and Responsibilities 

    • The position of Dean is a Management position within the University reporting to the Deputy ViceChancellor, Academics, Research, Extension & Student Affairs and shall be responsible for:-
    • ensuring that students admissions are vetted;
    • controlling matters of academic quality including writing thesis;
    • maintaining a database in managing thesis, academic programmes and student enrolment;
    • iensuring research proposals, board of examiners and supervisors are maintained as per the policies;
    • coordinating the implementation of procedures of handling examinations in Schools;
    • coordinating postgraduate programmes in consultation with Schools and Directorate of Quality Assurance, Compliance & Performance Contracting;

    • providing recommendations on student and lecturer ratios to the University Senate;

    • implementing University annual research grants by monitoring and evaluating the performance of University research funds;
    • developing and managing a multi-disciplinary research database of all Schools;
    • coordinating cross-school research committees for it to achieve the research mandate of the University, the government and all stakeholders;
    • ensuring that protection of research results of projects are done as per Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy and research;
    • supervising and coordinating activities of researchers and technical staff policy as per the technology transfer mandate;
    • liaising with institutions including internal and external stakeholders in the region and international realm to ensure that joint collaborative research networking is effective and efficient;
    • marketing and promotion of programmes of the University; 
    • ensuring that the University ISO quality manual and procedures are adhered to; and
    • performing any other duties as may be assigned by the University from time to time.

    Qualification Requirements
    For appointment to this position, a candidate must:-

    • be a member of the Academic Staff of the University;
    • be at least a Senior Lecturer having served in a leadership position within the University;
    • be in possession of a Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree or its equivalent from a recognized Institution/University;
    • ihave demonstrated outstanding administrative/managerial capability in the organization and management;
    • have attended a management course lasting for not less than four (4) weeks since last appointment.
    • Relevant Publications in Refereed Journals will be an added advantage.

    • The post of Director is a Management position within the University reporting to the Deputy Vice –

    An officer at this level will be responsible for:

    • controlling and supervision of buildings under construction or specialized work of running aRequirements for Serving Officers For promotion to this grade, an officer must:-
    • have Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering awarded by Kenya National Examinations Council, or equivalent qualifications recognized by KNEC;
    • have served in the relevant field in Grade 5/6 (V/VI) for at least three (3) years;

    • have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and resultsrepair and maintenance works;
    • assisting in planning a building programme;
    • ensuring that construction work in progress is in accordance with the specifications of the drawings by architects and engineers; and
    • monitoring work progress as per schedule in addition to estimating costs.

    Requirements for direct appointment
    For appointment to this grade, the candidate must:-

    • have Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering awarded by Kenya National Examinations Council, or equivalent qualifications recognized by KNEC;
    • have worked with a large organization or Government for at least four (4) years; and
    • have competency in computer applications particularly in Architectural and Civil/Structural Engineering packages.

    Requirements for Serving Officers
    For promotion to this grade, an officer must:-

    • have Diploma in Building and Civil Engineering awarded by Kenya National Examinations Council, or equivalent qualifications recognized by KNEC;

    Senior Quantity Surveyor

    Duties and Responsibilities 

    • The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for direction, management, performance and evaluation of all Contracts. An officer at this level will be responsible for:
    • formulation, implementation and control of policy on tendering and procurement procedures, 
    • financial and contractual administration of all Building Construction and Maintenance Contracts;
    • advising the University on procurement, financial and contractual management of Building Construction and Maintenance Projects; and
    • being the custodian of the register of Consulting Quantity Surveyors, Contractors, SubContractors and Suppliers registered with the University.

    Requirements for direct appointment
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:-

    • have Master’s degree in Quantity Survey or Building Economics or its equivalent;
    • have valid registration by the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya;
    • have registered with the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK);
    • have a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in an organization comparable in scope and status to the Quantities and Contracts Department of the Ministry in charge of infrastructural development in Kenya or a large firm of private Quantity Surveyors;
    • have a certificate in Leadership and Management course; and
    • have demonstrable professional experience, competence and high degree of administrative leadership capacity. 
    • Relevant PhD degree will be an added advantage.

    Requirements for Serving Officers

    For appointment to this grade, an officer must:-

    • have Master’s degree in Quantity Survey or Building Economics or its equivalent;
    • have served in the Grade of Quantity Surveyor I Grade 12 (XII) for at least three (3) years;
    • have registered with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors of Kenya;
    • have registered with the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya (IQSK);
    • have demonstrable experience and high degree of administrative leadership capacity as a Quantity Surveyor or similar level;
    • have a certificate in Leadership and Management course; and
    • have shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
