    Medical Officer, Outreach Clinic Naivasha

    Responsibilities:

    • Review and examine patients consistently by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic laboratory and radiology studies in compliance with evidence based practice and established protocols.
    • Monitor acute and chronically ill patients’ progress on a regular basis.
    • Initiate discussions with patients and care givers to enable better diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services. 
    • When necessary, carry out privileged and potentially life-saving emergency surgical and medical procedures.
    • Provide evidence based screening and wellness examinations, risk assessment, early detection and education on prevention of illness.
    • Initiate timely discussions with relevant consultants/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
    • Establish links with clinic management and the main hospital to ensure smooth and efficient referral of patients.
    • Work closely with members of the clinical and non-clinical teams to provide patient centric, coordinated care, reduce errors and waste and create efficiency in resource utilization.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent
    • Successful completion of at least 2-years post-graduate Internship.

    • Advance Cardiac Life Support and Advance Trauma Life Support (ACLS & ATLS)

    Program Navigator, Department of Haematology/ Oncology

    Job Summary

    The position is required to provide coordination and planning for the various Cancer Center programs, with primary focus on experimental therapeutics. This position is the external face of the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) and involves interaction with pharmaceutical companies, NGO, Philanthropy and Civil Society. The job holder shall also provide executive support to the Cancer Center Director by maintaining a tracking and priority matrix for the Cancer Center programs.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and manage the feasibility process of proposed clinical research studies, utilizing various internal and external data;
    • Support program/study, clinical planning and ensure accurate recruitment forecasting to maximize efficient and timely delivery of the CRU’s clinical trials;
    • Collaborate with CRU operations, regulatory and clinical teams to support efficient start up procedures and site activation;
    • Lead and manage Cancer Center Grants in collaboration with the AKU grants office: Proactively monitor requirements and deadlines and manage time for responses to program announcements/RFAs or general application submissions;
    • Collaborate with the PI and other Cancer Centre collaborating institutions throughout the application process to achieve a professional document for submission. Route and obtain appropriate signatures as required from PI, key personnel, and other departments, or outside institutions and agencies;
    • Assist the PI and project team to assemble application prior to submission and ensure timely submission under absolute, unwavering agency and internal deadlines;
    • Actively and closely liaise with the AKU Finance and Grants office to monitor grant budgets and costs for approved grants;
    • Foster and champion external engagement and networking, serving as a key point of contact for the CRU and its networks, such as research institutions, societies, Contract Research Organizations (CRO), Pharma organizations, Academic institutions, etc.;
    • Strategize planned visits to establish site partnerships and follow-up to build network and maximize site performance;
    • Lead pro-active stakeholder engagement activities and partnerships to maintain alignment with the wider organization;
    • Provide contractual support on all Cancer Centre contracts and agreements. Prepare, negotiate and review complex contracts related to research studies and clinical trials including Clinical Site Agreements, Master Services Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Materials Transfer Agreements, etc.;
    • Ensure contractual documents sufficiently meet regulatory obligations and company policies and procedures;
    • Working closely with the Cancer Centre Director, manage engagement with key cancer Centre committees, and the University’s advancement office;
    • Manage external communication to mainstream media, internal media communications. Responsible for AKU CRU website content development and management;
    • Work closely with the Cancer Center Director on content development of manuscripts and publications; and
    • In liaison with the Research Operations Manager and Regulatory and Administration Manager, support the operations, finance, administration and regulatory facets of the program, the department of Hematology and Oncology, as guided by the Chair.

    Requirements

    • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, or health-related field. A Master’s Degree is a plus;
    • Must have certification in Good Clinical Practice and Human Subject protection;
    • Have not less than five (5) years’ experience in clinical research setting, including academic institutions, pharmaceutical industry, Contract Research Organization (CRO) or other clinical research environment;
    • Must have strong knowledge of ICH/GCP guidelines, and of protocol and clinical drug development, processes, clinical study design, study planning and management, and monitoring;
    • Proven project management skills and study leadership ability are key for this role; and
    • Must have excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.

    Pharmaceutical Technologist, Outreach Clinic Embu

    Responsibilities:

    • Receive, verify prescriptions and dispense drugs in a timely manner within approved standards and procedures.
    • Contact the physician immediately for inaccuracy and illegibility in a prescription order, document errors and communicate them to the nursing and pharmacy staff
    • Verify expiry dates of drugs prior to dispensing medication to patients/customers.
    • Check that every label placed on the medications contains the correct patient name, drug, quantity and directions.
    • Compound extemporaneous preparations and mix certain intravenous medications as per laid down procedures.
    • Counsel patients on drug administration and use of devices for optimum wellness and recovery.
    • Receive, return and update drug credits on the system in a timely manner.
    • Deliver drug discharges to patients in the ward where applicable
    • Communicate out of stock and non-stock effectively and timely to prescriber and nurse and provide alternative choice or make arrangements to order promptly.
    • Comply and observe the environmental health and safety measures and regulations by proper handling, storage and dispensation of medications
    • Record, monitor and update the expiry list of medications in timely manner.
    • Complete documentation of Interventions, Medication errors and Near Miss, Adverse events, Medication queries, Patient complaints or any other incidents and forward to relevant office
    • Perform random medication checks daily and Monitor variance levels in your respective satellites.
    • Compile daily satellite reports.
    • Carry out regular satellite stock-take exercise.
    • Report any special indicators allocated.

    Requirements:

    • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution
    • Registered with The Kenya Pharmaceutical Association
    • Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
    • 2 year working experience in a busy facility, preferably a hospital
