• The therapist (intern) is to perform screenings, assess patient condition, and design therapy and treatment plans to help the patient develop necessary speech skills. 

Key Responsibilities & Duties: 

• Diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language, and swallowing disorders. 
• Creating treatment and therapy plans to suit the individualized needs of a diverse population of patients.
• Performing screenings to detect voice or speech disorders. 
• Educating patients and family members about speech disorders and causes, including disabilities and traumatic events. 
• Keeping detailed records relating to patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress. 
• Reporting progress and current status to appropriate parties, which may include family members, teachers, or medical professionals. 
• Working directly under the clinical speech therapist and shadowing them in all their duties

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Speech-language Pathology or Diploma in Speech language Therapy - Recent graduates or final year students highly encouraged to apply
• Certified with the Association of Speech and Language Therapists, Kenya. Experience with certain conditions or working with specific age groups may be preferred. 
• Strong understanding of speech-related conditions, causes, and treatments. 
• Excellent coaching and verbal and written communication skills. 
• Proficiency with computers, especially patient and healthcare databases. 
• Attentive and caring with the ability to develop individualized education plans.

Responsibilities  

• Doing a community mental health assessment 
• Planning a mental health strategy 
• Offering counselling services to persons living with communication challenges i.e. stammering, aphasia, dyslexia, dysarthria, individuals who have suffered stroke, voice disorders
• Managing mental healthcare for the clinic 
• Supporting groups of parents who have children living with special needs.
• Identifying and managing protection issues

Requirements

• Formal education and post qualification in one of the following: Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social work (with additional psychological therapy qualification), Psychiatry (with additional psychological therapy qualification) 
• Currently licensed to practice  one of the above areas with independent licensed clinical practice 
• Two year's post-qualification experience 
• Experience in managing and training mental health workers 
• Experience in the clinical supervision of others and treating trauma related problems 
• Experience with emergency mental health/crisis interventions  
• Able to work well as a part of a multicultural and multidisciplinary team 
• Available for a minimum of twelve to twenty four months
