    Partnerships & Grants Manager

    Job Purpose:

    NRT seeks to recruit a Partnerships & Grants Manager with a proven track record in managing large-scale grants and high-value donor relationships. This role requires expertise in securing multi-lateral and bi-lateral funding, crafting persuasive proposals, and ensuring donor compliance. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in managing donor relationships, developing grant proposals, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to ensure quality reporting and compliance. The role will steward existing institutional donors and build new relationships, committed to advancing NRT’s mission. 

    The Key focus of this position will be: 

    • Manage bilateral and multi-lateral donor accounts, ensuring compliance and engagement to build strong, long-term partnerships with major funders like the European Commission, USAID, DANIDA, Sida, AfD, FCDO, UN, and the World Bank. 
    • Oversee donor reporting & communication with varying levels of hands-on support to communicate context, project progress and promote mutual accountability. 
    • Collaborate with program teams to create compelling written materials, including proposals and reports, emphasizing data, logical flow and conservation-centric perspectives. 
    • Lead the development of compelling grant proposals and bids, working with cross-functional teams to meet donor requirements and organizational goals. 
    • Develop and implement strategies for donor engagement and retention, focusing on building strategic partnerships and initiatives to unlock additional funding and diversify into new opportunities. 
    • Ensure rigorous compliance with donor requirements and internal policies by coordinating financial, MERL, and program reports. 
    • Assist with budgeting and financial reporting to help develop proposals, review financial reports and monitor burn rates. 
    • Apply knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks, creating and reporting against log-frames or management indicators. 
    • Monitor and manage risks associated with funding opportunities and grant implementation. 
    • Act independently and in supervisor’s stead as needed, exercise independent judgement to identify and solve challenges to ensure successful outcomes. 
    • Communicate NRT’s mission to diverse stakeholders effectively. 
    • Be prepared to travel frequently on short notice and work flexible hours as needed. 
    • Perform other duties and special initiatives as assigned. 

    Knowledge, experience, and qualifications required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, project management, development studies or a relevant field of study.
    • A master’s degree or relevant professional certification and membership to a relevant professional body would be an added advantage.
    • Minimum of seven (7) years of direct experience in the not-for-profit sector, managing large grants from bilateral and multilateral agencies.
    • Possess an in-depth understanding of complex donor processes and requirements, particularly USAID, DANIDA, Sida, AfD, FCDO, UN, and other public funding agencies.
    • Have previous experience with not-for-profit fundraising and proposal development, preferably in the fields of conservation, environmental, and natural resource management, particularly with public funding agencies.
    • Have excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills, with the ability to prepare proposals, reports, and concept papers to a high level of proficiency.
    • Superior organizational, project management, and communication skills.
    • Experience in donor management and CRM systems.
    • Must have skills: grants management; donor relations; partnerships; fundraising; reporting; donor compliance.

    Fundraising and Partnerships Officer – 2 Positions

    Job Purpose:

    The Fundraising and Partnerships Officer will manage a portfolio of significant multi-lateral and bi-lateral funders. This involves identifying and evaluating potential funding opportunity, cultivating relationships with targeted funders (formal and informal reporting), leading and writing proposals and bids, coordinating internally across NRT’s cross-functional departments (finance, programmes, communications, M&E) to develop compelling proposals that help fill funding gaps, report on status of the grants. The Account Manager is also responsible for monitoring and tracking opportunities throughout the funding cycle, helping mitigate any risks or challenges that arise and working as a high performing team member.

    The Key focus of this position will be: 

    • Manage a portfolio of bilateral, multi-lateral donors and/or foundation donors – ensuring both compliance and engagement plans to build strong, long-term partnerships. 
    • Lead on the development of grant proposals and bids – getting inputs and content from the regional implementers 
    • Support relationships with funders and donors to help deepen relationships by explaining the context and promoting mutual accountability. 
    • Manage ad hoc teams and coordinate grant project planning and reporting – with ability to initiate internal teams of peers around an agreed timeline and set of deliverables. 
    • Support basic proposal budgeting and reporting, helping review and explain financial reports and monitor burn rates. 
    • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information. 
    • Ensure compliance with NRT policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements. 
    • Manage or participate in complex or sensitive negotiations with implementing partners, conservancy members and boards, and funders 
    • Convey the mission of NRT to diverse groups who are important stakeholders. 
    • Travel frequently and on short notice, work long and flexible hours as needed. 
    • Coordinate reporting and providing information needed by partners/donors/stakeholders; ensuring financial, MERL and Program reports align. 
    • Any other duties that may be assigned, including dedicated special initiatives. 

    Knowledge, experience, and qualifications required:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, business administration, finance, accounting, project management, development studies or a relevant field of study.
    • A master’s degree or relevant professional certification and membership to a relevant professional body would be an added advantage.
    • At least 5-7 years relevant experience in managing large grants for Bilateral and Multilateral agencies.
    • Experience in convening proposal development workshops and leading process of developing grant proposals.
    • Interest in environment, climate, community based natural resource management, marine and terrestrial conservation, peace-building and development.
    • Deep familiarity with Kenyan or Ugandan conservation and development issues.
    • Experience in building and maintaining long-term relationships with external stakeholders.
    • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects of donors in a donor tracking or CRM system.
    • Conversant in monitoring, evaluation, adaptation and learning frameworks – comfortable creating and reporting against logframes or result-based management indicators.
    • Experience in working with diverse, fast paced cross functional teams.

    Senior Communications Officer- Carbon Project

    Job Purpose:

    The Carbon Project is looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to provide strategic communication and public relations leadership and oversight to a growing organization whose impact is well-recognized and continuously supported. 

    The overall purpose and responsibility of this role is to lead, develop, coordinate and implement successful communications and public relations strategies through targeted, innovative communications that reach and catalyze change in key constituencies from communities to government and donor stakeholders. 

    The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for building and maintaining a positive profile for Carbon work through impactful media and outreach across key external online and offline communications channels; driving compelling stories and events that reinforce the project’s brand, while ensuring regular and efficient sharing and exchange of information through effective internal communications. 

    Key roles/responsibilities:

    • Ensure strategic and effective communications, helping to oversee the development and implementation of the communications strategy related to the project including leading on all aspects of communication and public relations management within the project. 
    • Strategy: Develop, lead and manage the delivery and review of internal and external communications and public relations strategy that support the project; well-illustrates the conservation and development wins being made by communities; strengthens the project’s profile, and supports the organisation’s fundraising efforts. 
    • Work Planning: Lead the development of communications work plans which outline key activities for implementation that support project objectives, Fundraising, Programme and Communications strategies. This also includes developing and implementing carbon communication activities and budgets in collaboration with the project management and Finance teams. 
    • Social Media and Ground Level Communications: Oversee the development and management of the carbon website, social media channels (including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and production of regular and incisive blogs, to conduct similar efforts at an individual conservancy level as well. 
    • Products: Work with colleagues to produce editorials, features, advertisements, brochures, fact sheets, briefings, position papers, news stories, impact assessments, etc. 
    • Media: Develop and maintain positive working relationships with targeted online, print and broadcast journalists, editorial writers and columnists, as well as other media staff. This includes supporting well-executed media strategies and activities, including press conferences, one-to-one briefings, press release, and other written materials. 
    • Campaigns and events: Conceive, develop and lead groundbreaking communications and advocacy campaigns, projects and events to help achieve our community conservation goals. Enhancing our partnerships with county and national governments is a key priority. 
    • Internal Communications: Support in the development of internal business/information sharing platforms for effective internal communication to build and maintain the project’s internal communication network and secure internal buy-in for the project, generating maximum participation and support within the organisation. 
    • Partnerships: Collaborate with the Grants and Communications departments to ensure an integrated communications strategy is developed and implemented with regards to community conservancies and the Carbon Project. Hold periodic meetings and work closely with implementing offices, donor offices and to ensure close coordination on communication efforts. 
    • Reporting: Prepare progress and impact assessment reports, track the project’s media presence, and analyse and report on the frequency and quality of coverage on a timely basis. 
    • Assessment: Review existing communications capacity and assets and related communications outputs with the aim to identify available resources and expertise and gaps in Carbon Communications assets and needs.
    • Research: Oversee and conduct market research as appropriate to inform creative and innovative communications strategies, messaging and campaign propositions designed to effectively persuade target audiences to help support the continued growth of community conservancies and the project. 

    Knowledge, experience, and qualifications required:

    • Masters degree in any of the following fields Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Mass
    • Communication and Journalism or other related degree from a recognized institution.
    • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields Public Relations, Corporate Communication, Mass
    • Communication and Journalism or other related degree from a recognized institution.
    • Minimum of 10 years experience in practical communications management across a broad geography.
    • A strong technical background in areas related to communications-conservation.
    • Knowledge of a working environment involving government, donors, NGOs and social media.

    • Excellent writing and communication skills, and ability to develop effective partnerships.

    Snr. Payables Accountant

    Job Purpose:

    Working closely with NRT Finance team in streamlining and strengthening financial accountability and management best practices, the accountant will be the primary point of contact when it comes to accounts payable matters and ensuring all statutory compliance to financial / admin regulations and relevant policies. The individual will provide support to NRT HQ finance department with accounts payables management including vendor accruals, reconciliations, vendor ageing reports, withholding taxes timely submission and ensuring NRT policy and statutory compliance. 

    Key roles/responsibilities:

    Accounting & financial reporting 

    • Verify, allocate and reconcile all vendor entries. 
    • Work towards error-free postings as assigned. 
    • Prepare an accurate and up-to-date creditors aged listing report. 
    • Complete assigned activities to ensure a timely month end closure. 

    Financial risk & compliance evaluation 

    • Support with the implementation of audit, organizational and donor review recommendations. 
    • Prepare and file bank reconciliations within stipulated timelines. 
    • Support with all audits, project and statutory audits, financial risk & compliance evaluation. 

    Payments 

    • Process payments-program/supplier/contractor/consultant/payroll. 
    • Self-review to ensure completeness of all payment documents before processing. 
    • Ensure arithmetic accuracy and correctness of payee details before making payment. 
    • Maintain both manual and digital filing of documents. 
    • Ensure completeness of payments documents from procurement side. 
    • Accurate deduction and remittance of withholding taxes to KRA within the statutory timelines. 
    • Ensure timely correspondence to all stakeholders(vendors,staff,HoDs) 

    Knowledge, experience, and qualifications required:

    • A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration or Business Management specializing in Finance/Accounts or related field from a recognized institution in Kenya.
    • At least CPA finalist.
    • Advanced excel and analytical skills (Dashboard reporting, Power BI).
    • Knowledge of the SAGE Evolution accounting package will be an added advantage.
    • At least 5 years’ experience in finance and particularly in accounts payable or relevant filed.
    • Experience in donor funded environment will be an added advantage.
