    Senior Research Officer (Monitoring & Evaluation)

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Dean of Graduate School & Director of Research/Extension, the job holder will be responsible for providing technical support on the monitoring and evaluation of university grants and preparing timely reports on the university’s grants portfolio.

     Key Responsibilities

    • Coordination with funded stakeholders to ensure product quality
    • Coordination with funding stakeholders to ensure client satisfaction
    • Coordination with other internal stakeholders to ensure internal awareness
    • Contributing to proposal development to ensure sound design
    • Development of M&E frameworks and systems for tracking and reporting results.
    • Developing data analysis plans and performing data analysis as needed.
    • Deliver and champion capacity building and learning strategies and skills.
    • Performance of any other duties as many be assigned from time to time.

    Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

    • Master’s Degree majoring in the social sciences or other relevant field, from an accredited university
    • At least three (3) years of progressive experience in monitoring and evaluation / grants writing in a reputable organization.

    Laboratory Technician (Human Anatomy)

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Senior Laboratory Technician, the holder will be responsible for the overall maintenance, cleanliness and order in the laboratory and will assist the Laboratory Technologist in the day to day activities of the laboratory. 

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assisting in preparation of reagents, samples and specimen for practical classes.
    • General maintenance of laboratory
    • Assisting in identification, collection, handling and preservation of samples and specimen
    • Preliminary preparation of samples and specimen
    • Performing simple laboratory tests according to the manuals
    • Noting of breakages and other incidences in the laboratories
    • Maintenance of laboratory records and inventory for supplies, reagents & equipment
    • Maintenance of a clean and sanitary working area in accordance with WHO’s Good Laboratory Practices 
    • Ensuring the return of all solutions, chemicals and apparatus used in laboratory exercises.
    • Assembling supplies and constructing apparatus; setting up and assisting in conducting classroom experiments and demonstrations.
    • Storage of supplies and equipment; disposing of solutions, used samples and specimen according to guidelines; and keeping storerooms and working areas orderly and clean.
    • Performing any other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

    • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited academic institution;
    • Certificate in Mortuary Science from an accredited academic institution;
    • Registration by relevant regulatory body;
    • At least two (2) years of relevant experience of Mortuary Science, in a research or higher learning Institution. (Evidence of support given to students during their research projects will be an added advantage)

    Research Associate

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Dean of Graduate School and Director of Research /Extension, the job holder will be responsible for conducting research, consultancy and capacity building in research activities and statistical methods, and organization, analysis, storage, dissemination and publication of academic research efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage the design of research/survey instruments, coordination, data control, data collection and storage of instruments.
    • Provide technical guidance and support for students and faculty research efforts and capacity building,
    • Coordinate with respective university research units to provide support for conferences, trainings and workshops and publication efforts
    • Maintain data records and reports related to faculty research efforts.
    • Develop data analysis plans and perform data analysis as needed.
    • Deliver and champion capacity building and learning strategies and skills
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for data collection and reporting processes to ensure data integrity.
    • Work closely with the grant writer to develop research proposals and institutional research to enhance the faculty research profile database.

    Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

    • Master’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or any other relevant Social Science with bias in quantitative and qualitative analysis, from an accredited university;
    • At least Three (3) years of progressive experience in Research and Capacity Building in a reputable organization.
    • Strong knowledge of research evaluation methodology , data quality assurance , analysis and reporting
    • Good computer literacy and knowledge of multiple statistical and/or qualitative software packages such as STATA, SPSS, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word
    • Experience conducting field research preferably in educational settings, and managing a research team

    Digital Repository Librarian

    Job Description

    Reporting to the University Librarian, the holder of this position will be responsible for planning, developing, expanding, and maintaining the digital repository and working collaboratively with faculty, ICT, administrators, staff, students, and also with peers in other institutions and organizations in developing a successful institutional repository strategy for USIU-Africa.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage the day to day work and development of the repository, setting priorities and targets and developing workflows to manage the capture and description of repository content;
    • Plan for and arrange solutions for digital asset preservation to ensure that data and other digital assets remain accessible, understandable and ready for re-use throughout their useful life;
    • Coordinate the scanning of all print theses and archives materials and upload to the repository;
    • Monitor developments in data standards and best practice and act as a liaison with national and international data organizations;
    • Maintain close engagement with related scholarly communications issues including copyright and open access and actively participate in the annual international open access week;
    • Ensure legal obligations are met relating to the creation and retention of paper and electronic records;
    • Develop an advocacy program, create publicity materials and promote the repository internally and externally;
    • Provide tailored research data management and training opportunities to the university community;
    • Advise departmental staff on the management of their records and collect institutional publications and articles from them for uploading to the repository;
    • Provide information and analysis and prepare quarterly and annual performance reports to inform strategic and operational development; and
    • Undertake additional duties as may be assigned from time to time.

     Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

    • A Master's degree in Information and Library Science (or equivalent) from an accredited university;
    • At least three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar position in a busy library or higher learning Institution
    • Must have practical experience with relevant tools, protocols and standards such as DSpace, OJS, Fedora, MODS, OAI-PMH, MARC, Dublin Core, and ORCID;
    • Proven experience in developing and/or managing an institutional repository system;

    Senior Laboratory Technologist

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Dean, School of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Performance of tests and laboratory procedures such as preparing samples and doing manual tests that are based on detailed instructions and protocol.
    • Planning, documenting, setting up, undertaking (and guiding students on) controlled experiments and trials.
    • Maintenance of laboratory use records, with reports as and when needed
    • Provision of semester and annual inventories reports
    • Use of automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing a number of tests at the same time.
    • Preparation of laboratory testing samples for examination by faculty and students
    • Discussion of results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with faculty and students
    • Operation and maintenance of sophisticated instruments and apparatus
    • Operation and maintenance of a safe Experimental Animals House
    • Set up, calibration, maintenance, operation and shutting down of laboratory instruments. 
    • Preparation of equipment maintenance schedules and timely and satisfactory maintenance
    • Maintenance of competence in a Laboratory Information System that is crucial to the quality operations of the laboratory.  
    • Maintenance of material safety data sheets for all School chemicals and products.
    • Active participation in Quality Improvement Programs essential to ensure that laboratory testing is accurate, timely and meets customer needs.  
    • Training and orientation of new Laboratory Technologists in the performance and interpretation of tests.   
    • Engagement in service to the university, the profession and to the community.
    • Adherence to the USIU-Africa Laboratory Safety and Operational Guidelines

     Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university. 
    • A higher diploma in a related field from an accredited academic institution;
    • Registration by relevant regulatory body;
    • Three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar position in a research or higher learning Institution, with evidence of support given to students during their research projects.
    • A specialty in any of the following areas:

    Library Assistant

    Reporting to the University Librarian.

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Charging and discharging information materials to library users and update their records, clear paid library penalties fees to facilitate utilization of library resources.
    • Assist in providing reference information services to the university community to facilitate information retrieval.
    • Provide library user education through library orientation and training sessions, to promote user information literacy.
    • Organizing and maintaining library stock (shelving and shelf reading) to facilitate identification and retrieval of information resources.
    • Training and monitoring work-study students, interns and students on attachment.
    • Assist in cataloguing, classification and indexing to facilitate easy retrieval of information materials.

    • At least two (2) years of relevant post-qualification experience.
