    Information Technology Intern

    Save the Children has been operational in Kenya since the 1950s, providing support to children through developmental and humanitarian relief programmes delivered both directly and through local partners. Current programming focuses on child protection, child rights governance, education, health, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH. In 2012, as part of a global reorganization process, Save the Children combined the programmes of SC UK, SC Canada and SC Finland to create a single operation in Kenya. In Feb 2014, we completed a second transition, which saw us join forces with the British INGO, Merlin, and merge their health and nutrition programmes with our own. Save the Children now ha s an operational presence in Bungoma, Dadaab Refugee Camp, Garissa, Mandera, Turkana and Wajir and a footprint in Kakamega, Kisumu, Migori and Kitui. In 2016, Save the Children established a new project office in Madagascar whose operations are managed by the Kenya CO.

    Role Purpose:
    Under the general direction and guidance of the Information Security team and Head of Tech Hub, provide timely and high quality IT technical support to SCI staff members. The post holder will also play a big role in looking and investing SIEM Incidents reported.

    Key Area of Accountability
    Triage of security incidents to identify information security threats and vulnerability findings to support incident response.
    Assists with vulnerability management for specific applications, services, networks and servers when required.
    Assists with documentation of processes, programs and reports when required.
    Assists with incident response and forensic investigations when required.
    Assists the security operations team to identify, select and advice on information security controls.
    Assists in the research and assessment of new threats, security alerts and recommendation of remedial action/s.
    Assist with information security risk analysis and reporting.
    Assist in all other IT related tasks as assigned by any InfoSec team members

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Preferred (but not required) a BSc Degree in Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Science or any IT related field.
    • Strong computer, analytical and critical thinking skills.

    • Knowledge and understanding of basic information security concepts and principles.

    Health and Nutrition Coordinator

    Role Purpose:

    This position demands the technical knowledge, management skills and the work experience needed to run a health and nutrition project. The Health and Nutrition Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring successful implementation of research on integration of community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) in to integrated community case management (ICCM). Guide the Roll out community/mother led MUAC screening, support IMAM surge approach scale up, strengthen uptake of Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN). Promote community led complimentary feeding and take lead in nutritional surveillance and information systems.

    Key Areas of Accountability

    • Programme
      • Provide technical assistance to MoH to implement integrated community case management.
      • Training and mentorship to Community health volunteers in Integrated Community Case management implementation (ICCM).
      • Ensure successful implementation of research on integration of community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) in to integrated community case management (ICCM)
      • Guide the Roll out community/mother led MUAC screening.
      • Support Integrated Management of Acute M surge approach scale up.
      • Strengthen uptake of Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN) at community and facility level.
      • Organize and coordinate trainings in consultation with County health authorities.
      • Consolidate activity reports and ensure timely submission to supervisor for onward submission.
    • Representation and coordination
      • Represent Save the Children in various health meetings at field level in order to increase visibility and networking opportunities between different stakeholders (government and non-government) in the nutrition sector
        Promote the sharing of best practice and learning in relation to programming, advocacy and campaign activities in the field and with Save the Children.
    • Advocacy
      • Advocate for reforms that will promote the effective implementation of Save the Children’s health and nutrition strategy
      • Apply knowledge and advanced expertise in health policy and programmes to design and develop activities that promote nutrition policy implementation and development
      • Integrate to the extent possible and subject to comment 12 of the Convention on Children's Rights, children's participation in programs and projects of Save the Children
      • Advocate the approach based on children's rights in all internal and external interactions
      • People Management and Development
      • Support and supervise SC staff working on this project
      • Ensure that responsibilities of staff on this project are clearly defined and understood with performance objectives set against work plans and regularly monitored
      • Ensure that staff requirements are identified and that staff are given every opportunity to increase their competencies, capacities and own personnel development
      • Ensure effective involvement of staff in running the project through participatory approach to planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and decision-making
      • Ensure that staff perform well and they are monitored on a regular basis to fulfill the indicators of the project.
    • Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)
      • With the support of MEAL team, ensure project performance is tracked and quality standards adhered to.
      • Coordinate regular project monitoring and supervision in liaison with the SCHMTs to ensure quality project implementation according to agreed standards.
      • Take lead in preparation and documentation of best practices, lessons learnt including case studies.
      • Ensure the compilation of quality and timely reporting for the project both routine project reports and donor reports.
      • Ensure learning from the project are documented and shared with County officials, programme staff, other SCI partners as well as within the organization.
      • Collect and manage complaints and feedback in close coordination with MEAL team.
    • Coordination and Representation
      • Initiate and participate in all multi-stakeholder advocacy activities, forums and networks aimed at raising the profile of SC project issues in the agenda of government, partner NGOs and
      • communities
      • Represent SC in all health coordination forums in conjunction with Health and Nutrition Manager

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Degree in public health, or Nursing with community health experience.
    • Minimum four (4) years’ experience in Integrated Community case management of Case Management and Nutrition programming.
    • At least three (3) years’ experience of public health work and the design and implementation of nutrition program (ideally CMAM including monitoring and evaluation)
    • Experience working with Community Health Units in community health strategy.
    • Proven experience in Project Management
    • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff
    • Excellent spoken and written English and Swahili.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
    • Sensitive to issues affecting children and committed to Save the Children’s Child Safe Guarding policy.
    • Strong documentation and report writing skills.
    • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
    • Culturally sensitive with qualities of mentorship and patience.

    Nutrition Officer

    Role Purpose:

    The holder will be responsible for implementing better health and nutrition among communities through nutrition education , surveillance and supporting the MOH in increasing uptake of MIYCN (Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition), IMAM surge approach scale up, Promote community led complimentary feeding and Roll out community/mother led MUAC screening. In close liaison with MEAL, support in collection, processing and verification of reports/forms and maintains programme/projects databases.

    Key Areas of Accountability

    • Nutrition Education trainings
    • Participate in the development of training curriculum and tools and facilitate/co-facilitate all nutrition education trainings
    • Provide technical, logistical and any other support for the trainings in the various divisions.
    • Liaise with relevant ministries and partner agencies in selecting participants for trainings while ensuring that priority is given to the staff working in the key agreed areas
    • Liaise with the ministry and other partners in ensuring that nutrition education are comprehensively done following set guidelines
    • Maintain a data base of the trained and active nutrition educators in the community
    • Identify needs for and participate in refresher training sessions
    • Identify a number of community leaders who will work closely with the program at the village
    • Participate in evaluation of the outcomes of the trainings
    • Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Participate in the design, development and implementation of an M&E framework for all nutrition related activities.
    • Write reports to document the process of implementation, lessons learnt and good practice and ensure information is widely disseminated
    • Prepare monthly activity reports as well as quarterly donor reports.
    • Take lead in all nutrition monitoring and evaluation activities e.g. Coverage assessments, SMART surveys
    • Supervision
    • Develop a comprehensive plan for supervision of all the field nutrition activities
    • Assist the community health extension workers (CHEWs) implementing nutrition activities to develop monthly work plans.
    • Mentor the Sub county nutritionists to ensure that they support and supervise the community health extension workers in their areas of coverage as required
    • Ensure regular meetings with the Sub County nutritionists and community health extension workers
    • Document and share lessons learnt in a comprehensive and detailed manner to enable track trends on changes on a timely basis
    • Development of nutrition education training and counselling materials
    • Participate in the design/adaptation of appropriate nutrition education and promotion methods and tools, and pre- testing them with the team and community members.
    • Liaise with the health education department at the Ministry of health to adapt and produce appropriate nutrition education materials
    • Participate fully in reviewing the community training guides and counselling cards
    • Identify and document locally available foods and develop recipes
    • Oversee and guide staff in providing on-site cooking demonstrations and workshops
    • Network and coordinate with the relevant sectors and agencies in implementing nutrition activities at national and community level
    • Identify areas of synergy in the field with the Ministry of Health and other implementing agencies working with communities.
    • Come up with a comprehensive plan of activities within the identified areas of synergy with the actors named above.
    • Actively participate in coordination meeting
    • Implement Community Mobilization Activities
    • Carry out community based nutritional promotional activities targeting community groups. Activities to mainly include MIYCN sessions, community feedback meetings and social mobilization
    • Liaise and establish strong links with existing community structures including mother-to-mother support groups, community units, youth groups, village elders and religious leaders.
    • Implement the development and maintenance of a referral system
    • Work with Nutrition workers to develop and maintain a referral system at community level in which community health workers refer malnourished children and mothers needing special attention to the health facilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Essential
    • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Food & Nutrition or equivalent
    • At least two (2) years’ work experience in community nutrition work and implementation of nutrition education programmes, including monitoring and evaluation
    • Understanding of community management of acute malnutrition
    • Excellent understanding of SQUAEC, SMART methodologies
    • Experience of and commitment to utilizing participatory approaches.
    • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach local staff and community workers.
    • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathise with children and their carers
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
    • Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
    • Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay at the field
    • Strong research and data analysis skills
    • Strong report writing and computer skills
    • Fluent in written and spoken English, Kiswahili and local languages
    • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.

    • Qualified nutritionist with nutrition education/MIYCN experience

    Regional Humanitarian Capacity Building Prog & MEAL Officer

    Role Purpose:

    The Humanitarian Capacity Building team support the humanitarian and emergency response work of Save the Children and the wider sector through the design and delivery of innovative and high quality learning and talent development programmes. We are now recruiting a programme and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) officer to support our East and Southern Africa (ESA) regional hub. This new role will help us evaluate the impact of our work in the region and to learn from it.

    You will be able to use a combination of your adult learning, research and analytical skills to support development and delivery of capacity building while identifying needs and creating a compelling case for investing in capacity building. Working as part of a creative and fast moving team you will be able to create systematic and manageable processes that will help us identify the wider impact of our existing learning and talent development programmes. Your work will track the effectiveness of what we do and enable us to target our learning initiatives in a way that has the biggest impact.

    This position sits in the East and Southern Africa Humanitarian Capacity Building Team. The role will support humanitarian and emergency response through ensuring that our learning and talent development initiatives are based on robust research, effective evaluation and market analysis while show casing impact of these programmes.

    Contract Duration: 1 year

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • Experience of conducting research and evaluation on programme impact - ideally of social change, capacity building or learning programmes
    • Experience of working with and developing indicators and monitoring tools
    • Experience designing and delivering training
