    Gender Consultant

    Responsibilities for the Gender Consultant Job

    • Carry out a comprehensive Country Gender Assessment of the Agriculture and Rural Sector (CGA-ARS) that includes a detailed gender analysis for the Kisiria ecosystem in Samburu.
    • Prepare a final report of the country gender assessment and a gender mainstreaming strategy for the Kisiria Forest and Integrated Rangeland Management project
    • Prepare and carry out a presentation of key findings and recommendations to the FAO country office.
    • Prepare a four page-long brief summarizing the main findings and recommendations, with relevant numbers and statistics, by the main agricultural sectors of FAO in Kenya and the priority areas of work of the FAO representation
    • Prepare a two to four page-long contribution to the UNCT CEDAW Report based on the main findings of the CGA-ARS.

    Gender Consultant Job Requirements

    • Advanced university degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Economics, Development Economics, or other related disciplines
    • Excellent oral and written English and Kiswahili language skills
    • Excellent knowledge of the key gender equality, social equity and women’s empowerment issues in Kenya in the context of agriculture and rural development including Natural Resources Management,
    • Demonstrated ability (through publications in English language) to produce written analysis of socio-economic and gender issues,
    • Significant experience in analysing and integrating the perspective of gender equality in programme formulation in the context of agriculture and rural development – covering Crops production, livestock, Fisheries, Natural Resources Management and experience in socio-economic and gender analysis
    • Extensive knowledge of the UN System, its working and programming mechanisms, familiarity with FAO’s work would be an asset
