Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities will include monitoring and execution of the work in specialized fields of civil engineering. Specific duties will involve being in charge of design teams, dealing with structural design, detailing and supervision of University buildings and other structures; Liaison with Architects on problems connected with projects under the Department and also checking and monitoring work produced by consulting engineers. Other duties will include preparation of specifications; bill of quantities; supervision and maintenance of the sewerage disposal scheme, surface water disposals, roads, parking areas, paved areas of the University buildings, schools, hospitals and other establishments and co-ordination of planning and execution of the projects under the Colleges and Campuses. The officer will, in all functional areas, be responsible and report directly to the principal Structural Engineer.
Job Specification for Serving Officers
For promotion to this grade, one must have: –
(i) served in the grade of Structural Engineer Scale MU12 for a minimum period of three (3) years with a Master Degree, and five (5) years without a Master Degree;
(ii) been registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya and be a corporate member of the Institution;
(iii) a thorough knowledge of computer;
(iv) demonstrated professional competence in work performance and results.
Job Specification for Direct Appointment
For appointment to the grade a candidate who have:-
(i) A Master degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
(ii) Thorough knowledge of the computer, particularly in civil/structural engineering packages.
(iii) Current registration by Engineers Registration Board of Kenya
(iv) Served a large firm/organization, preferably government as a Registered Engineer for not less than six (6) years after registration by the said Board.
(v) Served in an administrative or supervisory position in last three (3) years.
(vi) Wide experience in the field of structural/civil engineering in planning design, construction and maintenance of structural and civil works, ensuring sufficiency design, specifications, quality control and contracts administration.
